I just couldn't get into this book. It's not my style unfortunately, and I was hoping it would at least be enlightening!

As I said in another review I love me some witches and I think I always will, but I’ve been sitting on this review for like a year and that should tell you how I feel about this book.

As I read elsewhere “Witches are a complicated subject at the intersection of cultural and religious imperialism, aggressive and misogynistic gender politics, and antisemitism.” I was pleasantly surprised to find an established relationship between the two main characters Muriel vas Veldina and Enne Datchery who have been together for long and even have a pupil that feels like their daughter which I love getting in a story right at the dramatic part, when the conflict starts.

This conflict is a two part struggle: The relationship sort of wearing out and the loss of the grimoire Muriel and Enne have been charged to fix, which is fun but what I have a problem with is the length of the book (too short) and how that weakens the narrative, the layering of the story and the roundness of the characters.

It’s a fun read and light so maybe someone with less expectations about the subject matter and character dynamics may find it a lot better than I did.
