This book sounded so interesting, and I was really excited but I couldn’t get into it. I hate to give a negative review, but for me, I hated the writing style. The characters were so annoying and so hard to like, it was all I could do to get through. Unfortunately I have no desire to read anymore in this series.

Good day! Before anything else, I would like to extend my deepest, sincerest gratitude for sending me a digital review copy of this book (via NetGalley). Thank you very much for the opportunity!

Unfortunately, I am sad to say that I have lost interest in this particular title, and consequently, I have decided against finishing it. Forcing myself to finish a book I am disinterested in (solely for the sake of finishing it) can only negatively impact the entirety of my reading experience, which, in turn, could result in me writing an unfairly negative review. That is a circumstance I hope to avoid. With that said, I believe that the best course of action is for me to simply not read it and to refrain from publicly posting any feedback regarding this book.

I hope you understand where I'm coming from. Again, thank you for the lovely opportunity!

Cool YA Fantasy novel, although not addicting. It was the kind of book you read when you have nothing else to do, but definitely not a book I'm dying to read whilst doing other things.

Really interesting dystopian for readers fans of dystopian fantasies. I'm a little over them but was surprised on how much i enjoyed this one. Can't wait to get my hands on book 2.

I found this novel incredibly difficult to get into, it felt stiff and the language was perhaps a little young for the style of the novel.

Midnight Hour Studio and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of The Awakening (Emerge #1). This is my honest opinion of the book.

Alexis Carmichael is no stranger to new things, as her parents are constantly packing up and moving at a moment's notice. This time is different, however, as her parents Lily and Carson are bring Allie home. Kelleys Island is beautiful, but will her first day at Cliffton Academy be derailed before it begins? A chance encounter with Aidan McBrien before school rattles her in a way that Allie did not expect. As Allie tries to fit in with a group of teens who are seemingly different, will a shocking discovery shake Allie to her core?

Not only does this book have a love triangle, but trust that usually takes years to develop happens overnight with these teens. Without the romance, The Awakening has enough supernatural elements to make it interesting. Because too much time is spent on the love triangle, the author did not fully develop the main premise. As the series continues, it is my hope that the plot will move forward in a meaningful way, taking the book out of the romance realm. I might be willing to give the series another try, as I feel that the characters may have an interesting story to tell.
