This is the third book in the Scarlet Falls Trilogy and it is Mac Barrett's story as well as Stella Dane's story. Stella is a newly promoted detective and she is on the case of missing and murdered women. The first victim was a highschool friend of Stella's. She does not want the second kidnapped woman to become a murder victim, but time is running out. Meanwhile, Mac returns home from the jungles of South America after being almost killed by drug runners. He is also told that his father is dying and if he wants to see him one last time, he needs to get home. Stella and Mac begin to rekindle a friendship they started in the first book of this series and they begin to fall in love. As Stella finds herself in a rush against time to find the third victim, the Barrett family come to her aid in style.

Mac and Stella both have to deal with guilt and reveal secrets while working together to solve two murders and find their missing friend. Mac also needs to decide on whether he will stay in Scarlet Falls and live the type of life he never thought he wanted. The main characters are written with just the right balance of flaws and personal growth. This is a suspenseful story and it kept me guessing until the end when the culprit was finally revealed to the reader. hot romance and suspense that keeps you guessing. I have enjoyed this romantic suspense series. More suspense, with just enough romance to add to the story and not detract. I like watching the relationship between Stella and Mac grow amidst all the danger that surrounds them. This is a series, but this and any of the books can be read as a standalone, however I would recommend reading them in order. I enjoyed listening and reading along with this book from Kindle Unlimited.

Murder, mystery, and romance tied together in this page turning story of Mac and Stella. This will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end!

This book was a complete surprise! I couldn't sleep until I had finished it, unfortunately I didn't finish until 4:40am!
I think that the fast pace of the story made it really easy to read, I prefer this to long drawn out chapters I find. The characters were likeable, the perpetrator was pretty evil and disturbing.
This is the third of a series and the author goes back to them several times, I have since downloaded them so I can see where the story begun.
I am assuming that Melinda will write another as there were a few things that were left unfinished. GOOD! I look forward to reading it.
Thanks to NetGalley, Melinda Leigh and the publisher for the opportunity to read this.

In this great installment to the Scarlet Falls Series, wildlife biologist Mac Barrett and police detective Stella Dane team up to catch a kidnapper after Mac almost runs over a body in the road that matches the description of a woman Stella is looking for who is missing. The body turns up missing before Stella can get there, so the hunt is on.

Another winner by Leigh! Great characters, storyline, and setting with plenty of action to keep it moving!

Melinda Leigh does not disappoint in the romantic suspense category! I can always rely on her to deliver a good story. In this case, Mac and Stella had already meet in a former story. Which helped create a relationship between the two from the beginning. *I always hate those insta-love stories*. I really enjoyed Stella being the cop in the relationship and being a strong woman main character. It was, as always, refreshing to read. I look forward to reading more of Melinda Leigh's books in the future.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review from Netgalley

There’s a new superhero in town, and his name is MacClellan Barrett! In Book 3 of her Scarlet Falls series ( I refuse to believe this is “it” for Scarlet Falls), the hard-to-pin down “baby” of the Barrett family gets his due. Mac Barrett is a biologist always on the move, studying his beloved river otters….or is he? That question gets answered very quickly as Mac, while on site in the Amazon, receives word of his father’s deteriorating condition. In rough shape (no spoilers here), Mac heads home, only to run head-first into the complex Barrett family emotional maelstrom, a mysterious disappearing body in the road, and the alluring Det. Stella Dane.

As Mac and Stella get drawn deeper into the investigation regarding missing women and staged murder scenes, the two give up fighting the attraction they have to one another. This is an engrossing mystery, tinged with the Barrett family dynamics as the Barrett siblings process the death of their father, “the Colonel.” An armed forces hero partially paralyzed in combat, the Colonel structured his household like boot camp, training his 3 children as if every day held a mission in enemy territory. Those mad skills, though, serve them well in this Scarlet Falls series.

This book is an amazing romantic suspense read by an author that has truly mastered the genre. Well-written, with complex characters and an engrossing plot, I could not put this book down once I started it. If you haven’t visited Scarlet Falls, I highly recommend you put these books on your TBR!
