This is a great start to a new series by a wonderful writer. This series isn't cozy as most of her other books are, but I really enjoyed that. Angela Richman is a death investigator who has had a major medical crisis in this book. While she is recovering in the hospital a doctor is murdered and she wants to get involved in helping to solve the crime. Although she is at times an unreliable narrator, I found her very likeable and she provides some great laugh out loud lines. I am intrigued by this character and am looking forward to getting to know her better in future books.
Angela, a woman in her early forties, is a death investigator which means she investigates mysterious deaths outside of the police and prior to the medical examiner. Angela begins to investigate a few cases before she ends up in the hospital herself, the victim of a series of strokes. While in the hospital, the doctor that originally misdiagnosed her dies under mysterious circumstances.
I’m not sure how I feel about this book. It was definitely an easy read, but I felt like most of the book was focused on her medical condition and recovery more than the investigations. I will read the next book in the series to see what happens next - I’m hoping it will be focused more on the investigations.
I requested this book because of the mystery side, not necessarily the health story, so I was a bit disappointed as the health and medical stuff took the front seat. It was okay, but it wasn't my favorite thing.
