This book centers around Kate Mason who has forgone her own dreams in order to put her family first. Her sister lives close by and plays a big part in the book and she was the main character in book one, again go read that one!! Kate is living on her family's property and wondering what is next for herself when Drake Newham shows up with his two nieces in tow. Drake is trying to keep his nieces safe and also take a much-needed break from work and Kate's guest house and attention for his nieces is exactly what they all need.
As we all know from the beginning that we will end up with a happily ever after but the twists and turns to get there will be worth it completely. At one point, I may have felt as though there was just a little too much mystery, but because it all resolved in the end, I could keep it straight and enjoy the ride.
I was already a Colleen Coble fan before starting this book and was excited to complete the series, so grab this one if you have already read book one and two and feel the joy of completion.
didn't realize that it had been 4 year since I read the previous book in the series; maybe that is what caused me not to enjoy the book as much as the other two books.I really liked the first 2 books and wanted to like this one as much. I truly believe the length of time ince the last book I read had something to do with my enjoyment level. I also listened to this book on audio,as I read the previous 2 on my Kindle, but I liked the narrator, so I doubt that affected my enjoyment.
Kate Mason’s life has been hard - very difficult family, lost sister, illness (resulting in her being barren). But she is a fighter, fiercely loving her dear ones, like her long-lost sister Claire. She is also very dedicated to fulfilling her duties. She also has a hard time to believe that people can love her just the way she is (as a result of the hardships).
The situation needs a man like Drake and his two adorable nieces (and a faithful God) to make her to open to the possibilities of living her own dreams.
City guy Drake has been too busy to visit the coast of Maine. But when the corpses of his brother and his wife had been found, he needs to clear his brother’s reputation of being a suicidal murderer. Luckily the hard-headed (and beautiful) neighbour is willing to help with his orphaned nieces...
Throw in some murders, some stalkers, some unsolved crimes and you have one hot pursuit of a ride here. Event-packed plot will not allow you to breathe, and even within the fast-going situations you are confronted with some emotional issues (like suppressed dreams and self-inflicted traps of if/when/how one is worthy of love).
I like the previous novel in this series more (I can relate to the plot better and there is a not such a wide spread of emotional issues going on), but this novel is a precious, intelligent a and deep food for thought - and a heck of a ride! Colleen Coble gets better and better.
And a shout out for another involvement of Gwen Marcey, the heroine of the Gwen Marcey Series by Carrie Stuart Parks, whom I dearly love.
Recommended read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Thomas Nelson through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Colleen Coble has done it again. Twilight at Blueberry Barrens is a great book!! Love, Love Love
"Sometimes it takes a while to figure out your own way in the world."
When I first encountered Colleen Coble's Twilight at Blueberry Barrens, the 3rd book in the Sunset Cove series, I was mesmerized by that gorgeous cover. One can definitely stare at that cover for some time. Like the cover, the story of Twilight at Blueberry Barrens has a bit of mistique and poignancy to it. The mystery that surrounds our characters and the danger that not only lurks, but troubles the mind has a way to bring our characters even closer together.
"God has perfectly equipped them to rely on how he created them to survive."
I'm also a fan of the interaction between Kate and the kids. There's a firmness, yet also the true love of wanting the best for these kids.
"Take a firmer hand with them. . . it means you love them enough to train them for living a productive life."
In all, Twilight at the Blueberry Barrens is a page turner with its emphasis on the message of life, past and present, but also what the future may hold, as long as you're willing to take the risk. There's romance, friendship, wisdom, intriguing plot and a setting that visualizes. Not to miss.
Disclaimer: I received a digital ARC of this book from the author/publisher. I was not required to write a positive review, and have not been compensated for this. This is my honest opinion.
Please note, all quotes are taken from ARC (essentially an uncorrected proof). Please do not share quote or if do, please make note that it is taken from an ARC.
Nicely written. Drake and Kate are well drawn and realistic, as is the situation. There is something to be said for a romance/mystery that doesn't smack you over the head with sex and or gore. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. I had not read the first two books in this series but that was not an impediment to enjoying this one.
I love reading books by Colleen Coble, and living in Maine, I have really enjoyed the Sunset Cove series. I was slightly disappointed in this book. There was too much going on and too many mysteries. I was excited to finally read Kate's story, but there was just too much going on. I thought the stalker storyline was overdone and it was obvious who the stalker was. Also the cliche of the man wanting a family and the woman not being able to have children, has been done too many times as well. I will still recommend Colleen's work, but I do not feel that this was her best work. Thank you for letting me read this.
