Have you ever wondered what you could to do to better your role as a mother? This book has some humorous answers to that question, and pokes fun at our old-fashioned ideas and expectations. The illustrations work well with the ideas and jokes, and it is a quick fun read.

If you enjoy a good parody book that pokes fun at parenting you're sure to enjoy this one. It's a little painful because it's weirdly spot on at times, though other times I found myself raising my brow at the questionable wording. This could make a cute gift for a new mom with a good sense of humor or a terrible gift for your own mother, gift at your own risk.

I believe that this series of Fireside Guides could have been a treasure. I read the Mom one first and quickly I lost any illusion that I would enjoy these books. They are meant to be humorous and I normally enjoy vintage illustrations coupled with snarky humor. In this case I felt that the humor was too easy. There was nothing new or clever here. Most of the jokes can easily be found in countless Facebook memes. Being a mom is hard! Mom drinks a lot of wine! Dad is clueless! This is all such well covered ground that I found myself bored by page 2. It was a big disappointment all in all.
