Does this NOT WANT you just freaking pick up this book and read through it? Does it NOT sound like a hilarious romance that could have you holding your sides while you cry from laughing?
Because that's exactly what happened when I got into this book.
I have to be honest though, it took me a while to get into - maybe the first two or three chapters - but when I actually got into this one - I DID NOT STOP - not for sleeping nor even for eating - It was that freaking good!
Ash and Sam meet when Sam is being mugged - like the hero he is, Ash saves Sam - but does Sam really appreciate it? No. Why should she? When Ash specifically went against her wishes to take the mugger - well the reason is something that Ash doesn't really want Sam to know - AND - thus the headbutting starts.
At this point, I was still a little unsure about the story itself, but I adored Ash and Sam's interaction with each other - cue in the busybodies of the neighborhood (including Sam's grandma!) and I JUST knew that it would be a roller coaster ride!
Now, Sam has her own demons - working in the police department with a storm hanging over head because of her father's disappearance (aka the rumor that he was dirty!) while working undercover - is one that she has had to face every single day from the officers in the precinct - but doesn't really let that stop her from finding out the truth.
For Ash, he is on an undercover assignment - a demotion for him, for absolutely SCREWED up his last assignment - and all for a woman. And since then he has been leery of woman and what do you know, the FIRST assignment he gets after being put on desk duty - has a woman trying to get up all in his business (and not the naughty kind!).
The sexual tension between these two is high - like enough for me to fan myself through their encounters - but what makes it even a more enjoyable read is how brilliantly does the author weave the suspense with their romance and other hi-jinks that they encountered.
Did I wish that Ash would sometimes get his head out his tush? yes. Yes I did. And that is the only other issue I had with this romance!
I loved the writing, and the character development in this book and honestly, I can't wait to see where this author goes from here!
On Her Six was a crack up to read. Sam and the Neighborhood Watch ladies are hysterical - even if they cause Ash nothing but grief. It sorta reminded me of the Stephanie Plum series - if her Grandma Mazur had a neighborhood watch.
This book was hot, suspenseful, and funny. It was my first Christina Elle novel and what an introduction! I definitely will be reading this series as it continues on.
