A breathtaking romance that was gut-wrenchingly healing with a great insight into what goes on with veterans with PTSD. The love between Hunter and Trina was the kind that made me anxious to see what happened next. Book provided by NetGalley.
Love Trina and Hunter’s sweet love story. Emotional read. Tirana is so patient and sweet. She had a challenge and she was determined to win until she felt she didn’t. Hunter is struggling with his past and present. Engaging read from beginning to end.
This was an okay read, but it didn't draw me in. The first 50 percent wasn't good, but then it started to pick up and got a bit better. Trina and Hunter had a budding romance when he went on tour with the military. They loved each other, and have plans to further their relationship when he returns. In the mean time, Trina is taking care of her daughter and Hunter's daughter. About a year later, Hunter returns home, but there's a bit of a problem. Hunter has amnesia, and is missing memories from the past year he was away. He doesn't know Trina in a romantic sense, and is pushing her away. I found Hunter a bit too cold, he wasn't willing to give Trina a chance. I didn't really care for Trina. She basically talked about how she wore her daughter's father down until he slept with her. She ended up pregnant, and the father left her to raise their daughter on her own with limited assistance. There's also scenes where Hunter is having nightmares, and she goes in the room to "comfort" him. He grabs her and starts heavily making out with her while he's sleeping. Trina does little to nothing to stop this, and in fact, she keeps going to him knowing he'll be sexual with her. Hunter wakes the next morning and doesn't even know if it was a dream or not. It felt too much like dubious consent to me, so it was all skeezy. Plus, there's no mention of Trina having anything going on outside of taking care of the kids; what does she do for herself. The characters are all pretty basic, and the conversations don't feel natural. So, Trina wasn't a character to inspire a connection with. The story was sweet towards the end, and the story kept me reading, so I think a 3 star works for To Have and to Hold.
I have not had a chance to read this book yet. I am still working on catching up and also trying not to get too far behind on other books. I will update this review once I have read the book.
Sexy sweet story! It was emotional and yet passionate. If you wanna almost cry and scream at your book here you go!
I've become quite a fan of Serena Bell, and most particularly this series by her. I thought this was a great addition, and I thoroughly enjoyed the book.
Trina and Hunter have a great relationship. They have a wonderful future planned. Then, Hunter is injured and comes home from deployment with no memory of Trina. Hunter doesn't really trust this woman that he doesn't remember knowing. Trina is devastated that their future together has collapsed. As they walk on eggshells around one another, they have to come to terms with the situation and decide what the future does hold.
Trina, Hunter, and their girls were characters that I really cared about. I felt so badly for all of them and wanted everything to turn out well. The storyline was a good one, and it broke my heart at times. This was a good one!
The publisher sent me this book to review, but I never got round to reading it as it wouldn't open on my kindle properly.
