Lovely traditional recipes to bake including some classic favourites. Includes a simple strudel recipe, brotchen for breakfast. Also little bits of information on the origins of some of the recipes and tips for success.
These recipes are delicious, and remind me of my grandmother's baking. My family especially liked the glazed apple cake!
I love Luisa's blog and the amount of historical research she put into this book is astounding. It is certainly the primary reference for German baking that I would turn to. It brought me back to the stollen of my childhood.

My Grandparents came to America from Germany so I'm always excited to find new recipes to try. I enjoyed looking through this cookbook and have made a couple of things. I found the recipes to be consistent and the results were good. Overall I would buy this cookbook
I loved this book so much I purchased it in hard copy AND I bought the gugelhopf pan.
This is a fabulous compendium of German baking! All my favourites from my student days in Munich and Salzburg were easily found, as well as some recipes for biscuits, cakes etc I had seen in bakeries on holidays since, but never actually tried. I was particularly pleased that Weiss included such a range of recipes - from staples to more complicated, celebratory confections, and recipes which are distinctly Austrian, or from various German Länder.
The notes at the beginning are extremely detailed, and some readers may be tempted to skip over them, but I found them very useful, particularly in explaining some ingredients which are not readily available outside Germany/Central Europe.
I have no doubt that this book will become a family favourite.
