How many authors can say they are 30+ books into a series and they still have that magic touch? Lora Leigh certainly can. Her latest novel, When a Sleeping Tiger Wakes is exotically sizzling and Lora Leigh is a master storyteller of Paranormal Romance.

In this story, Cullen Maverick and Chelsea Martinez are our newest and hottest mates to be. Although they are newer to our community than others we have heard of them in earlier books. Cullen is the twin to Graeme, a primal who borders with sanity every day. After Cullen helped his twin secure his mate they needed to change their names; Cullen (Judd) and Graeme (Gideon) were born in the hopes both of them could leave their past behind them.

Chelsea has always had her family looking out for her, even when she doesn’t want it. Working with Cullen at the Navajo Covert Law Enforcement Agency she had hoped to form some independence and show everyone how good she really is. Cullen has other ideas that make her feel smothered and leaves her with no choice but to leave which is when everything changes.

Cullen has always known he is a recessive breed, but when Chelsea is placed in danger the animal inside decides that it’s time to show the world, especially those out for his mate exactly who he is. To make a relationship work you need compromise. The question is can Chelsea and Cullen learn to compromise their protective/independent identities before they lose something far more important.
Together Cullen and Chelsea make this story sizzle and with the added comedy from Graeme this book is hard to put down. Recommended to anyone who wants a great read!

Chelsea has finally had enough. She has trained and argued to no avail. She is through waiting for Cullen to see her as she is. The time has come to leave and take the future she has worked so hard for. But Cullen isn’t ready to let her go and neither is the primal that shares his skin.
In Wake the Sleeping Tiger by Lora Leigh we see just what it takes to wake a recessive primal tiger. Cullen didn’t expect Chelsea to really leave but now that she has, can he convince her to give him a chance? I loved Cullen and Chelsea in this story. Cullen is a recessed breed who is more like his brother than ever expected. I love the struggle Ms. Leigh had in store for him as not only his animal fought to be free but also the woman who means more than he ever knew. I love that Chelsea was willing to fight for what she needed. She has tried for too long to make her family happy to her detriment. She is ready to demand respect even if it is painful.
The life of Breeds continues to be painful. Even as Ms. Leigh adds more layers to this world, the hatred continues to bubble up in unexpected ways and places. Ms. Leigh continues to write stories that provide unexpected twists and turns. She allowed both Cullen and Chelsea an opportunity to grow apart so they can find a way to be together. This story is well written. I loved seeing Chelsea show Cullen her worth. I enjoyed seeing Cullen deal with his brother even as Chelsea schools him on her needs. I can’t wait to see where Ms. Leigh will take us next as the Breeds fight to be seen as equal and worthy.

Cullen's long recessed breed senses awaken when Chelsea gave him her resignation.  A kiss activates the mating hormone sealing their fate.  Why are his breed genetics finely coming to life after so many years? His brother Gideon the mad scientist has a theory.
I like that this book actually has a story that goes beyond a mating kiss followed by lot of hot horizontal action which becomes a bit repetitive in the telling when you are so many books deep in the series.
Don't get me wrong. For those readers who find these sexual encounters hot and erotic there's plenty of that to go around along with the fast paced action that characterizes this story.  As we know each couple has their own path to walk on their mating journey and this one is definitely different given that Cullen was once married to Chelsea's cousin.
Chelsea did not sign up to work for the Navajo Nation covert enforcement agency to file papers in an office. When Cullen absolutely refuses to let her out in the field she quits and goes to work for the Bureau of Breed Affairs. Losing Chelsea's calming presence in his office agitates Cullen's tiger. While he doesn't yet know how to use his animal senses to the fullest his desire to claim and protect Chelsea start to unravel the lock down he has on his animal instincts.  It doesn't help that Chelsea has no thought about her own safety and is plunging headlong into danger.
Now that the mating instinct and mating heat has been triggered Cullen can't leave Chelsea alone.  Determined to protect her he makes a bit of a pest of himself in full protective mode hampering her abilities to get her job done. Chelsea however is in the trigger hairs of a killer. Who is trying to do their level best to have her killed and why?   The truth that emerges is a pretty chilling but the author saves the best for last and leaves her readers on quite a cliff hanger.  It's good to catch up with Gideon and his mate along with Cassie whom we haven't met for a while and Anya the fun loving coyote female who gives Chelsea dating advice.
Given the cliff hanger ending and Cassie's active role as a secondary character in this story I hope the author is finally getting ready to share Cassie's story with her readers.  Can't wait for that one.

#31 in the series. Let that sink in. I will admit I haven't read the previous two in this series. And the last one I read was in 2014 -- 2 1/2 years ago, so my memory was a bit foggy on where we left off in this long, drawn out series where we STILL haven't got Cassie's story yet.

In saying all that, this reads like a typical Breeds book. Only Cullen is a recessed, primal Breed. Throw in a dead wife (who was never really his mate), a heroine who is not in need of rescuing or protecting and you've got a pretty angsty ride ahead. It wasn't bad, but I continue to feel like these are "filler" books. Sure, there are some aspects of the overall storyline that are getting us closer to Cassie's book, but overall - eh. (I didn't read #29 or #30 and I don't feel like I missed anything pertinent.)

The sex scenes are still hot, still full of alpha and that oh-so-interesting mating "secret", although the wording and descriptions seem a little dated. It was almost like reading a throwback to the "early days" of sex in romance books.

Will I keep reading this series? Of course I will.

Cullen Maverick is a Bengal Breed who has been able to keep his traits recessed until his true mate Chelsea Martinez turns his world upside down. Even though they have acknowledged that they are mates there are some who are not very accepting. New revelations are revealed that lead to more stories to come.

YES, What can I say? It is the Breeds series, who hasn't read these? I mean its like one of the biggest series ever, and its still good. Even though it was not Cassie's book, I was still happy to read this one!

The writing is the dirty, smut with a fabulous story. With fantastic characters and the story picking up from where the others left of, I really enjoyed jumping back into the Breeds series.

I personally don't want to give anything away, But if you are a Lora fan like my self you will not be disappointed. PNR is the most funniest genre to read about, shifters, sex and more action, plot twist and more!

Wake A Sleeping Tiger is another fantastic book from author Lora Leigh as she once again returns to the mysterious world of her Breeds.

There is no way to express just how much I loved this book. Out of all the alpha heroes that populate this series I think Cullen was one of the more intense characters. He's one of the rare Bengal Breeds and a twin to the feared Gideon / Graeme. Up until now everyone believed that Cullen's tiger dna must be recessive, but his Primal had just been taking a very long nap while patiently waiting until it was time to claim his mate. Chelsea was one of most kick arse heroines in the series. She wasn't about to let Cullen put her in a protective box of any kind. This time around the big bad kitty had to accept his mate as an equal.

This book was loaded with the hottest romance, dirtiest sex and breath stealing suspense. Once again, Lora Leigh managed to keep me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next and then left me hungry for more. As usual, the story building was intricate with myriad twists and super shocker surprises that totally blew my mind. There was the most wonderful and effortless humor between some of the characters, especially Cullen and his overprotective / sometimes crazy big brother, Graeme. As with the last three books this one is set within the Window Rock thread and for those of us long time readers this is an important book in the series. I always recommend new readers should start at the beginning of this amazing series so they don't miss anything. This time I'm thinking it could be easily understood just by going with the previous three books. Although, every single book in this series is amazing.

I enjoyed this story so much ! I'm already looking forward to the next fabulous chapter in the Breeds series.

This review will be posted at Night Owl Reviews.

Another amazing book in this series. Very well written and wonderful storyline. If you have not read the other books in this series you maybe a little confused on the other characters and their stories but it can be read as a stand alone but I would suggest reading the other books in this series since all of them are intertwined with each other. If you are a lover of this author like me. You know Lora always leaves us with a twist needing more of her work.
About the Book:
Science created them half man half animal but man can not breathe life into the being alone. Breeds live their lives as each day is a gift a miracle because at anytime it could be their last.
Cullen Maverick is a recessed Bengal breed who lost his wife many years ago. He is now Commander of the Navajo Covert Law Enforcement Agency and likes his life in order.
Chelsea Martinez is Cullen's assistant and covert agent for the agency. She wants to leave the agency to find her own way. He doesn't want to let her go but he does. He hopes she will be back.
When Chelsea takes another job putting her in danger Cullen invades making her life a living hell. His Bengal instincts awakens and is solely focused on Chelsea. Breeds have so little to hold onto and all he can do is protect her but at what cost. Can they compromise with each other to find their way? Will the danger tear them apart even farther? Can two souls become one not just mates but soulmates?

I am a big fan of Lora Leigh and really enjoy her Breed novels. I read everything she writes so I don't always read the descriptions before I pick them up. Based on the title I was surprised to find that this was one of the Breed series novels. She has a habit of using particular types of titles for her different series and this title was irregular for the Breed series. But that was the only thing that was slightly off about it!!

An imagination inspiring addition to the series. We get another look at rare Bengal Breeds with twins Cullen and Graeme. Although I don't think I've read about Graeme and Cat's story previously, they have a prominent role in this novel as an already existing mates pair. It was also fun to see the secretive Native American society in Window Rock that's been harboring and protecting Breeds for years. We've gotten hints of them in previous novels but this was the first one I've read where the couple were both immersed in that society.

Chelsea is a wonderfully strong woman who has been fighting to become the woman she wants to be her entire overprotected life. She is strong and capable but surrounded by crazy, overprotective family and friends. Her childhood crush being one of them. Her history with Cullen was great and added depth to their interactions. The duel villains is a common theme in Ms. Leigh's novels but she does it so well. One of them, this time, I didn't even suspect until the characters themselves started to see it. Well done!

Full review to be published online in mid March.

WAKE A SLEEPING TIGER, the 31st book in Lora Leigh’s long running “Breeds” series, tackles the topic of a recessed tiger breed, Cullen. His and Chelsea's story is a very fast paced tale; with a lot of comic relief in the form of Greame, Cullen's twin brother. Chelsea is a pretty kick ass character that knows how to handle anything thrown her way. While Cullen feels as though he needs to protect Chelsea from herself and everything around her; he comes to appreciate her for the warrior she has become. As for the almost completely human Cullen, his recessed breed is ready to make himself known to the world.

WAKE A SLEEPING TIGER is a bit of a departure for the “Breeds” series. It doesn’t do quite as much to further the current story arc of the series; but it is quite the enjoyable romantic tale. It is definitely not the place to begin reading this series, however; the story depends heavily in knowing a bit about the Breed culture and previous story arcs. Very good read, recommended.
