This a book that I initially had a hard time settling into, but once I did, I found myself enjoying it. This is the third in the series by Ms. Bingham about the Taggart brothers. I don’t know if missing books 1 and 2 contributed to the slow start, but I can’t help but wonder if it wouldn’t have been easier to read the series in order.

In Maverick, we meet the super competitive Bodey and Beth, a young woman trying to protect her younger siblings. These two develop and instant connection and an unlikely romance unfolds. I didn’t love either character in the beginning but grew to like them as the story went on. I enjoyed the connection between Bodey and Beth and the changes being together brings about for both of them.

There is also a fun secondary cast and an unusual setting, both of which added unique elements to the story. Intrigue and a kidnapping plot let Bodey’s protective instincts come out and it was wonderful to see him balance that with caring about Beth and her siblings.

Overall, this is a book worth reading and I am curious about the books for the other Taggart brothers.
