Normally this genre is not my favorite, but I love Elle Kennedy so I gave it a go. And what a series is was. It was full of intrigue and spice. So many elements to this series that had kept me reeled in from the beginning of the series to the end.

This time are we have Reese, Sloan and Rylan's story, and what a story it was. I gotta say that Elle Kennedy knows how to write Erotica. Yowza.

"If we did everything that was wise, we would've been dead a long time ago. "

This trio had been growing to this precipice for the whole series and we finally get to see them all together. I love this series and can't wait for more as there are so many characters that I'm dying to find out more from.

Woah! Ruled was a whole lot of steamy fun. I was eagerly anticipating this novel given how much I was intrigued by Reese from the very beginning and Rylan seemed like the complete opposite of her. With the addition of Sloan, there was the possibility of some drama, but Kennedy manages this threesome really well. Steamy, suspenseful and exciting, this whole series is a must-read!

Explosively erotic, the latest volume in Kennedy’s Outlaws series features a scorching ménage between well-developed characters. The ongoing battle against totalitarian government forces continues, but this tale primarily focuses on the passionate relationship between the heroes and heroine. In the Outlaws’ dystopian world, women and men use sex for stress relief and entertainment, but through the development of the trio’s relationship, Kennedy expertly demonstrates how their physical intimacy also transforms, heals and strengthens their spirit. While the series’ story arc does progress, this book is light on plot and heavy on hotness.

Sammy’s review of Ruled (The Outlaws, Book 3) by Elle Kennedy
Erotic Dystopian published by Berkley 01 Nov 16

Many moons ago I had the pure luck of coming across the Out of Uniform series. I think I gobbled up the entire backlist within a week. As the author has moved on to other series, I always add the first book or three to my huge TBR pile. I have both Claimed and Addicted sitting in that pile, but when Ruled came up for review, I couldn’t pass it up. You see, it hit all my reader buttons. While I seriously dislike to read out of order and this book proves why, I did enjoy this book very much. It goes without saying, I will be bumping the other two books up on my reading list. That way I can fill in the blanks. I don’t think this book can stand on its own.

Reese is the leader of Foxworth, a band of outlaws living a life of freedom from the confines of the Global Council. Reese also lives, breathes, eats, and sleeps vengeance. She is determined to lay waste to the very people who kept her mother a breeder, as well as the very people who sterilized her so she could never have children. She is also trying to come to terms with her last love interest, Jake, whom she had to kill to protect her people. Since Jake, she has been questioning her decisions and relies heavily on Sloan, her right-hand man. Sloan has his issues as well.

Foxworth Outlaws, with the help of other freedom faction Outlaws, are laying waste to the Council’s outposts. They’re stealing their stockpiles of weapons and ammunition and leaving behind a bloody trail of dead Enforcers. Even one dead Enforcer is a check for Reese, one less enemy she has to worry about. While they are starting off small with their military precision, the bigger picture is to wipe out the Council. There is a ton of action in this book, which makes this read an easy one. I never felt like there was a lull.

Sloan has been in love with Reese since the first time he laid eyes on her. Unfortunately for him, his friend Jake got the jump on him, and Jake did not share. Reese is not only beautiful, she’s smart, protective, and all around kick-ass. It’s no wonder many of these Outlaws want to get into her bed and stay for awhile. Sloan doesn’t allow his feelings to get in the way. He’s so closed off and is afraid of not having Reese in his life that he’s been celibate for three years. Rylan, Reese’s insane fighter, who trains her people in the art of warfare, is bold, funny, hot as hell, and doesn’t take no for an answer.

The relationship between Reese and Sloan is strong. She knows exactly how he feels, yet she’s cut herself off since Jake. Rylan scares her because he reminds her of Jake. Rylan is quick to run into battle without really seeing the bigger picture and that scares her on many levels. Jake was abusive, verbally and physically. Reese has a lot of pent-up feelings and Sloan suggests she have some sex to take the edge off. Enter Rylan. Reese eventually gives in, but only if Sloan is there to make sure she doesn’t fall into another bad relationship. From that moment on, Rylan and Reese together is off-the-charts hot. Rylan wants Sloan to join in, but Sloan is hesitant. The first time they’re together Sloan issues all the orders to the couple during sex, and from that moment on, you could see how well these three would work.

Rylan forces Sloan to let his guard down and take a chance. The men form a bond and their chemistry is amazing as well. When Sloan and Reese finally get together, it is a moment of YES, but also beautiful and steamy. When the three of them are together, I suggest turning on the air conditioner. I love the triad. I love Sloan and Rylan together, how their relationship unfolds. I love Reese with Rylan. Rylan is the carefree, funny, protective man she needs. I love Sloan and Reese together because he literally would die for her (not that Rylan wouldn’t). It’s just that they have years of knowing one another. There is no way she would be able to choose one over the other, because both men together create exactly what she needs. The fact that they all really respect, care, and love each other left me with a happy sigh in the end.

This is the third book in this series. I will absolutely read the previous two. There is a ton of action, the plot moves along, there are some surprises, a new bunch of defectors from the Council that has me intrigued. Hot loving, a ton of feeling. A really wonderfully written book by an author who doesn’t seem to disappoint this reader.

Great story. This series is getting more exciting. The tension and the romance worked well in this threesome.

This is the third book of Elle Kennedy’s dystopian series, Outlaws and the action has kicked up. Claimed (Book 1) was our introduction to this new society, and Addicted (Book 2) started giving us more in depth look at the characters in the various groups.

Not only is this a dystopian series, it is also great erotica. In Ruled, we go back to get a more in depth look at Reese’s Town. We also get a more in depth look at Reese and Sloan’s complex relationship, added with the spice of sexy Rylan.

This is a menage story, but what I liked best is that it was truly a bonding of all the parties into the new leadership of the Town. When Ryan was at camp with Hudson and Conner, they all played together from time to time, but it was definitely two on one in their exploits. Here, Rylan and Sloan spend just as much time playing pattycake with each other as they do with Reese.

In Ruled, Rylan has been chasing Reese since the moment that he saw her but Reese wants nothing to do with him and it has less to do with Rylan and much to do with how much Rylan reminds Reese of her ex-lover, Jake. Reese, Sloan and Jake started and then ran the Town. Jake was everyone’s friend but he had a dark side and when he started hurting women in the Town it became necessary for Reese and Sloan to take him out.

Reese can see that Rylan is missing Jake’s darker side, but she doesn’t trust her own judgment where he is concerned so when she finally agrees to have sex with him, she makes Sloan come watch in order to make sure she doesn’t get too carried away. Rylan, who is always up for a party, tries to get Sloan to join in, and doesn’t understand why two people as close as Sloan and Reese and who are obviously attracted to each other, haven’t gotten together. With Rylan’s help, Sloan and Reese break the barrier which has kept them apart and the three of them play while trying to decide the future of the Town.

Their actions outside of Town might just put everyone at risk. Reese, Rylan, Sloan and several members of Connor’s outpost and Reese’s Town have been attacking the City’s Outposts, killing Enforcers and stealing guns and ammunition. Nothing points to the Town but the Enforcers don’t trust them, especially after one of their teams went missing not long ago in her neighborhood and the tale of bandits seems just too shaky.

Now they must decide if they should risk everything by going further and trying to raid the larger Enforcer Outpost while they are still recovering from the last attack, or play it safe and lay low for awhile before the Council decides to take out Reese’s Outlaw Town.

Elle Kennedy does a great job of keeping tensions high for the surviving Outlaws who are trying to create a life for themselves even though the penalty for living outside the City is death.

This series does a great job in balancing the story for survival with the romances which reflect an attempt to grab a life in a dangerous world. In the end, the fact that Reese, Sloan and Rylan come together as a unit both as leaders of the Town and as a romantic group, shines in this story.

Steamy and salacious! This read was all kinds of yummy and hot. “Ruled” is the third book in this series, but I didn’t have to read the first two to understand what was going on. In fact, this is my first read by this author and I loved it!

Reese is the Outlaw Queen, as she’s been dubbed by the community of outlaws that follow her. She’s tough as nails and has a deep desire to see the stifling reign of the Global Council come to an end for her own vengeance but also so that her people can live free. So war is being waged all the while trying to provide a peaceful and open life to those who have chosen to side with her.

Reese was complex. She’s strong, independent and fearless on the outside, but on the inside, she’s afraid and vulnerable and I loved watching her fight for her people.

Her right hand man, Sloan, has been by her side for years and he’s been with her through the best and worst of times. He’s her best friend. Her confidant and he’s also been secretly in love with her since the beginning, only stepping aside when his best friend laid claim to her. That relationship ended tragically, but Sloan stands by the woman he longs for, even if it’s just as her best friend.

Sloan was sexy and dominant and intense. Whew! I had to fan myself a couple of times during his scenes.

Then there’s the mischievous, thrill-seeking, live hard or die trying Rylan, who scares Reese to her core. However, on the night she gives in and lets Rylan into her bedroom, Sloan by her side to both guide and protect her, she discovered something wonderful in letting herself fall apart so her men can put the pieces back together again. Rylan was HOT. And FUN! And there’s a vulnerability about him that made my heart swoon.

I loved these three together. They were smokin’ hot and the dynamics of their relationship were spectacularly done. Sloan needed Reese to be complete. Reese needed to learn to trust again. Rylan, whose own past has it’s dark spots, needed the both of them to find the peace he didn’t know he wanted.

But… there wasn’t a lot of action in this book. There’s a tension behind the scenes as the Enforcers circle around and cause trouble, but the resolution came a little to swiftly for my tastes. However, I want to go back to the first book and check out the story from the beginning. I want to see all these interesting characters from the moment this world the author has so wonderfully created, opens up.

Sexy and fun and definitely a keeper!
