I thought this was going to be another book in the series that I'd enjoy; unfortunately, too much time away from the series meant my interested waned. I just didn't find myself as enraptured with this installment as I had been with previous books. I made the decision to set LBB aside and move on. Thanks for the access to an early copy.
Once upon a time I did not know who M.J. Arlidge was. Now he is a must-read, wish-list, top of my TBR pile author. The murder mysteries he writes keep me on the edge of my seat, turning page after page, and wondering who Helen Grace will catch.
With Little Boy Blue there are characters and storylines brought back from previous Helen Grace Series books. I enjoyed getting the slight reminders of why a character acts the way they do. These past characters mentions are clues to who Helen Grace is chasing for the current crimes. With all that I just said, know that if you have not read the others in this series you are definitely missing out on some amazing reading but you will still totally enjoy Little Boy Blue.
Little Boy Blue is a good crime fictions story that kept me guessing and reading. I love that I was kept anticipating what would happen next. There are no giveaway clues, although there are clues that could or could not lead you to make the correct assumptions. I am a reader that follows the trail the author wants me to and MJ Arlidge is masterful at taking me down a path full of drama, suspense, twists, and murders. All of which add up to an amazing story. I recommend checking out the rest of this series and picking up this book also.
Helen Grace is my favorite masochist queen. The woman rides a bike, wears leathers, needs whips to clear her conscience and is a damn fine police detective as well. Her though processes are flawless, she is unflappable. Her team is spot on. A really great series. But, ooooooo...the ending...not a true cliffhanger, but it sure piqued my interest in the next book. A lot. I even ordered it from England because us Yanks don't have it yet.
I guessed the guilty party halfway through but did not have a clue as to how far this person was going to go with their vendetta.
Cannot wait.
I am sorry that I never received this book and was not able to review it. My email was a tshanahan@85 kindle address but in 32 kindles in my name, none of them had that address. I don't know how I ever gave you that address. It was a ridiculous mistake.
I looked forward to reading htis book and am sorry I missed it.
Little Boy Blue is the fifth book in the Helen Grace series and is a dark tense read .Helen tries to keep her personal and professional life separate but when her friend is killed in a popular S&M club called the Torture room all her secrets are in real danger of being exposed.Trying to hide this from her team is taking a toll on Helen and when another member of the club with connection to Helen is found dead she knows the killer is sending her a private deadly message which might end up destroying her life and career.
This book is a tense fast paced gritty thriller with short chapters making it a quick read. I would definitely recommend reading this series in order as there is some reference to a back story. My only complain about this book is that it ends in a major cliffhanger but I cannot wait to start the next one in the series.
I would like to thank Berkley Publishing Group & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.
People from Helen Grace's personal life are turning up dead. But this is a part of her life that she never wanted anyone to see. Will they make a connection between her and they victims? Will she be able to find the killer before her secrets are exposed? Hang on to your hats because this book takes you on quite a journey and leaves you hanging off a cliff at the end.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This is the 5th book in the Helen Grace series, and I think this one was the best. I think getting to see such a personal side to Helen, made this book more enjoyable, as well as trying to figure out who was doing this. At first it seemed like an interesting coincidence, but as time goes on, you can see she is being framed for these murders. Each moment you think she has the person responsible in custody, we only find out that she was wrong.
This book will leave your heart racing and almost stop at the end. It was an intense book and I can't wait to read book 6.
Maybe just my favorite book in this series. Great suspense, great characters, and a riveting ending. I can't wait for the next book to see how the story continues.
Helen Grace is tracking a killer with a sadistic side, targeting dominators. The first victim was a former friend of Det. Grace. As the investigation continues, it seems that the killer is always one step ahead. In the meantime, Helen must continue to deal with her longtime foe, newspaper reporter Emilia Garanita, who has an agenda of her own.
All I can say is when does the next book come out. I have been reading the Helen Grace mysteries for awhile now and this one has to be the best so far. It kept me guessing until the end. While this is a standalone, I would not recommend reading it without reading at least the first two in the series. I can't really say much without revealing the cliffhanger ending other than to repeat again...when does the next one come out.
“Little Boy Blue” eBook was published in 2016 and was written by M. J. Arlidge (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M._J._Arlidge). Mr. Arlidge has published six novels, this being the fifth in his “DI Helen Grace” series.
I categorize this novel as ‘R’ because it contains scenes of Violence and Mature Situations. The story is set in Southampton, UK with the primary character being Detective Inspector Helen Grace.
When a man is found dead under very strange circumstances, Grace and her team are called in to investigate. She is shocked when she discovers that the victim was her old S&M dominator. Fearing what will happen if the darker side of her life is discovered, she keeps her relationship quiet. Then a second man who she had also hired as a dominator is found dead.
The killer seems to be familiar with the S&M world. The clues are leading the police nowhere. Grace’s colleagues can sense strange behavior in Grace, but don’t know why. Emilia Garanita, a reported who has crossed paths with Grace before sees this case as an opportunity to both take revenge on Grace and write a sensational story. As the investigation evolves, Grace's world gets turned upside down.
I thoroughly enjoyed the near 7 hours I spent with this 393 page Mystery. I have read four of the “Grace” novels and have enjoyed them all. Grace is a brilliant detective, but has a hidden dark side. I think that this is the best novel yet with twists of plot I had not expected. The cover art is OK, relating to a chase sequence towards the end of the novel. I give this novel a 5 out of 5.
