Intriguing premise about a daughter kidnapped by her father and then reunited with her mother years later--but the reunion doesn't go well because she has been told lies her whole life. This is a realistic, touching book that is so incredibly heartfelt. Great read.
A heartwarming story, well written and plotted. Easy to read, it kept me turning the pages into the night.
I am sorry for not reviewing fully but I don’t have the time to read this anymore. I believe that it wouldn't benefit you as a publisher or your book if I only skimmed it and wrote a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for not fully reviewing!
My heart broke when I read this novel. I can’t imagine having my child stolen from me. I can’t imagine a man so diabolical, twisted, and evil, that he would take his daughter away from its’ mom and not have any contact. I certainly can’t imagine being Gemma and having to choose between the father she has known her entire life (a lie) and the mother that she always thought abandoned her (another lie).
Thank you to Net Galley and Kensington Books for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was an emotional and heart wrenching book telling the story of Verity, whose daughter was abducted by her ex-fiancee as a toddler and then sixteen years later she gets the phone call she's been waiting for since the day the crime happened. Alan, the baby's father has been arrested for trying to steal a car and his fingerprints have linked him to the abduction of his child and he is now in jail. Verity's daughter, Gemma will finally be returned to her and they will be reunited. Unfortunately, Gemma doesn't know that she was abducted and thinks her mother is dead and that she was an unfit mother.
Told in alternating chapters of narration between Verity and Gemma, we see them try to build a fragile bond even though Gemma doesn't trust Verity. The book shows an honest and touching portrayal of a family trying to come back together despite all the loss that has gone on around them. A well written book with substance set in a lovely summer landscape.
This book is brilliant. Gemma is kidnapped by her father when she was a few months old. Her mother Verity has missed Gemma every day and did her best to find her. When Gemma is 17 her father is arrested and she then discovers the truth about her life. Verity is overjoyed that Gemma is safe and well. When the mother and daughter are reconciled the author tells the story from Gemma and Verity's point of view on the same timeline. Its a fascinating read as two strangers get to know one and other. A must read.
