I have been a fan of Laura Levine and her heroine Jaine Austen ever since book one. Levine used to be a comedy writer for shows such as Newhart, and her comedy and whimsy shines through in this series of books. I absolutely love all of the characters, and this includes Prozac, the cat. I always look forward to seeing what new situation Jaine will get herself into. In this latest adventure, book 14 of 19, the curmudgeonly Prozac is slated to star in a cat food commercial promoting a cat food called Skinny Kitty. The inventor of this food ends up dropping dead on the set, and Jaine immediately starts to investigate.
As delightfully funny as the others in the series. I highly recommend it.
As an aside, let me tell you something about the author. In April 2011 my neighborhood was hit with a tornado. It went right through our backyard and did a serious amount of damage to the property, but the house was still livable although we had no electricity. We stayed in the house only one night, shellshocked from what had happened, and to console myself I read one of the Jaine Austen books by flashlight. I mentioned this situation to Laura Levine by email. Not only did I hear back from her, but she asked for my contact information and sent me an autographed copy of the next book in the series. It’s not everyone who would do something like that. She has a lifelong fan in me. Fortunately I love her work.
