I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I was hooked on FINDING PERFECT from the opening scene. What a fresh character and what a fresh middle grade voice!
On the outside, Molly is struggling to deal with a long-distance mom, a vulnerable younger brother, and a best friend in danger of moving away. But on the inside, she's struggling with something much more difficult. And scary.
Because if she can't keep every single little thing in order, her whole world will devolve into chaos. And she'd better keep that struggle to herself or everyone will think she's weird. Or crazy.
FINDING PERFECT is not only an engaging middle grade read, but also an important book that spotlights OCD and its painful effects. Highly recommend.
This is just a PERFECT middle grade read! Swartz' first novel is comprised of heart and soul. It provides a window and mirror into the world of a twelve year old who is becoming overwhelmed by her OCD symptoms. It's a story about the joys of friendship and family, in spite of how messy they get. It's also a story about resilience and healing. I adore Molly Nathans!
I truly loved Finding Perfect. Elly Schwartz did an excellent job depicting what it feels like to have the feelings and not know what to do. Her character struggled and suffered and my heart broke for her.
I found this book fascinating because the subject matter isn't often approached in middle grade novels. It's incredibly easy to get wrapped up in Molly's world and the walking in her shoes can be full of heartache and struggle, both outside and within. I highly recommend this for middle grades and up, it's definitely going in my library!
