Top to bottom this book is a romp! I love stories that dare to merge genres, and this is an adventure that brings sci-fi steampunk, seagoing exploits, coming of age and a whiff of romance together in one big roiling pot of fun. The world-building is excellent and made the whole crazy thing feel oddly grounded and real (for a given value of the word 'real', lol) and the characters had enough development to make me want to know what happens to them next. Thumbs up for this entertaining little tale.
