I couldn't really get into the plot or the characters much, but I did finish the book and enjoyed some of the vivid scenes. I just wish the main character had more depth and the dialogue was a bit more smooth.

Ok so let’s be honest, there just aren’t that many series out there that are about Viking warriors in modern America kicking ass against killer minions of the god Loki, but then again there just aren’t that many readers out there that have the interest in all things pagan and historical. Thankfully there is at least one author out there that is willing to give me a little something special to read. This is only the second story in the series of course, but I can honestly say it has been very interesting and I cannot wait to read more of these stories. Ms. Bradley’s series is a wonderful addition to any readers’ shelf and I cannot wait to see where she takes us next. Astrid is a Valkyrie, an ancient warrior class of women, embraced by the queen of the Norse gods, Freya, and she is tired of kicking her own ass for her screw-up. Her last missions didn’t go quite as planned, but she is determined to save her new Queen’s brother to make up for the mistakes. Luke has been drawn to Astrid from the very beginning, but now that she has become the center of his investigation he knows that he has to resist her allure. Luke has been after the people that imprisoned and experiments on him and his brother when they were kids, and now he is close to the truth, but that truth could tear apart the beginning of their new relationship. Astrid is the type of woman that all of us should aspire to be; beautiful, brave, sexy, and strong, and I enjoyed getting to know her and seeing the vulnerability that she hides so well. Luke was a bit of an ass through the majority of this book, hiding his true intentions even as he pulls Astrid deeper and deeper into the danger surrounding them. Thankfully once they both admit to their true natures and intentions, they are able to finally admit the feelings that have bound them together. I enjoyed the action and of course the myths that are some of my personal favorites in this world. The passion between Astrid and Luke is a conflagration every moment they are together and the reader is pulled into the heat right along with the lovers. I cannot wait to see what story comes next and what deadly Norsewarrior—or warrioress—loses their heart to their one true mate. Ms. Bradley has certainly captured my attention and I know that this series will be giving readers pleasure long into the future.

This was a good one. Astrid is an ancient warrior who is back with her 'family' to hunt Loki's creatures. Luke is as enamored with Astrid as she is with him but he is after more. He follows her as she goes on a mission for her queen and best friend and saves her life. Astrid feels like she is almost out of control but wants to trust Luke. He makes her feel more in control. Both are keeping secrets and those secrets may just keep them apart.
I really liked Astrid. She is a strong warrior who is loyal to her brothers and her king and queen. She would do anything for them, no matter the cost to her. I also really liked getting to know her 'family'. She is considered one of the brothers and treated just like the guys treat each other with very little exception. Luke was a pretty good guy. He is obsessed with finding the labs that held his brother and he. That is his priority over anything else and I was a bit annoyed at him for it. The 'family' and how close they are and protective of Astrid was probably my favorite part.
It was a 4/5 for me. I am going to look for more in this series because the characters just stay with you.

Thank you to the author/publisher for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

Having not read the first in this series, I can't say whether it's an improvement or not. It's been a while since I read a viking novel and this one pulls on Norse mythology which I am ALL there fore. But... it fell a bit flat for me.

I think I missed something having not read book 1. I felt like Astrid and her love interest, Luke, had something going in the previous installment that was meant to carry over into this novel but I didn't have that so their relationship was missing something.

I liked Astrid well enough. She's a tough warrior chick, all about showing her strength and never appearing weak. But she's also super insecure about herself and it clashed with the rest of her personality (and not in a good way). And much like in many of the romances I pick up, stubbornness and trust issues abound. I really wish authors would use different personality traits to cause problems between a couple because I see these ALL THE TIME and it gets old. It takes forever for the characters to finally overcome their problems, by which point I'm thoroughly frustrated with the book. Plus, I rarely find it done in a way that seems natural and not just a plot device.

Luke was an alright love interest. I thought he was supposed to be this super vengeful figure but never really felt it. And his entire occupation seemed wrong because if this wasn't fiction, he probably would get fired pretty quick.

As for the story, it has plenty of action and is perfect for fans of more fantastical romances. I'd say it's entertaining, though not necessarily an great book. I wanted more Norse mythology tie-ins, since that was a huge part of the draw of this book for me, but didn't really get them other than the obvious Valkyries.

Overall, fun, but not a series I feel invested in enough to read the previous books or any future installments.

If you love Norse mythology and Vikings, Asa Maria Bradley's Viking Warriors series is a great series for you. It has a great plot line, the world building isn't to far fetched since its also set in the very modern world, and it does great in mixing the good versus evil trope in a contemporary setting.

Viking Warrior Rebel is the second book in the series and follows the event that happened in the first book. Astrid and Luke both had one unforgettable one night stand, both are keeping secret identities and now they meet again. This time around they need to start trusting each other to complete their individual mission.

This book is more action/suspense than romance but it doesn't take away from how engaging and entertaining it is. Granted, its a foregone conclusion that Astrid and Luke are going to end up together, its the mystery and action packed sequence that keeps readers turning the pages. Viking Warrior Rebel will just keep readers coming back for more.
