I received an e-copy of this story for an honest review.
One of the reasons I love this story, aside from being a romance, is that it tells the story of a military Veteran. Another reason is because the general public doesn't really know the stress and trauma of PTSD that our soldiers go through when they return from war. Ms. Davis tells us the story of one Veteran, and the aftereffects of war that he has to deal with. But in all honesty, we, the general civilian public, have no idea the number of men and women across our country who live this kind of life every day, or the struggles they go through.
As the daughter of a Retired Army Veteran, who served three tours in Vietnam, I salute and Thank You Ms. Davis for writing and sharing this story with everyone.
*3.5 stars*
First author read, military romance…
I enjoyed this romance, fueled by post-military recovery and action-filled suspense. Kelcee was hiding from a secretive source while Dustin was dealing with his own demons. Surrounded by ex-military they were both surrounded by friends, family determined to help them…
I enjoyed the storyline and the chemistry that built between the main characters. What I felt shine though were he secondary, supportive characters. Bringing humour and friendship, they brought warmth and emotion to this read. While the story may not have been a unique one, it was all around a satisfying one.
*I happily reviewed this story
**Thank you to NetGalley
Dustin and Kelcee are a good match. I love the snark. I like the behind the scenes matchmaking. I loved the band of secondary characters. There was a lot goin on in places and I had to really focus to try to keep up. Overall a good story.
Dustin is a bad ass who just needed to disappear and recuperate in private. He didn't realize that what he really needed was Kelcee. Neither was ready for the other but both were exactly what the other needed.
I really enjoyed the romance and premise for Her Survivor. I enjoy military romances, so I loved that aspect. Dustin is a Navy SEAL, who has lost the lower part of one of his legs and has burn scars along his body and face. He is dealing with PTSD, and he's not the only one. One of his friends from the Navy, ZQ, owns a ranch and offers Dustin a place to getaway for awhile. Kelcee has just inherited a book store that needs lots of work, and ZQ has offered up Dustin's services. Dustin and Kelcee get off on the wrong foot, but they begin to grow closer overtime. Dustin's PTSD, and something dangerous from Kelcee's past cause problems for them both. They are really cute together, and I enjoyed their chemistry. They have some fire between them, and they are passionate about each other. I enjoyed their sweet connection. I enjoyed the other characters, but I do think the story moved a bit slow at times. The timeline was also weird, and the transitions could've flowed more smoothly. Overall, the direction the story took was interesting, and the whole story kept me reading.
This was a good story about two people that are both looking for a place to heal. Dustin Franks is dealing with losing part of his leg and the scares physically, and emotionally from the mission he was on that not only caused his injuries but also took the life of one of his teammates and friend. Now dealing with PTSD and just being around people he ends up in Hill Country Texas with his former commander and a couple of other teammates. He also meets a local lady Kelcee Todd, and their first time meeting does not go very well. He is actually rude to her. She though is one feisty Irish women and gives as good as he dishes out. They end up talking on the phone and slowly they begin to form a bound and he is wanting to spend more time with her. Everything is good between them until he has a flash back and it scares him because he feels he will hurt her. So he walks away. That is until he finds out that she is living in the town as part of the witness protection and now someone has found out about her old identity. He is upset that no one is letting him in on the plans but she tells him he didn’t walked away but ran so she had to do things to protect her herself. He finally gets his head out of his a-s and gets with the program. Overall a good book, I liked the characters, especially June bug and the scene with her migraine. A good book.
Found this book a bit it hard to get into the story, which was ok and had alright characters but will try again in the future with this author. Thanks for letting me try your book.
Ok so like always I will start by thanking NetGalley and Random House Loveswept for providing us with a copy of these books so that we could bring you this review.
I don't know where to start really other than I am in love and hope Ms Vonnie plans to write a million of these books in this series. A place that helps heal our soldiers... Maybe not physically but emotionally... to me that in itself is a win, but then to add all the awesome emotions and characters makes these books a must keep. Oh man did I enjoy how Kelcee's bookstore carried so many of the books that I have come to love over the last 4 years. I really like the history of the falls and what they can do for those in need of healing. As someone who has a very good Shaman friend I took the traditions and stories of the falls and felt them deeply. Ms Vonnie has a great voice to tell these stories. I loved the way that Kelcee and Dustin fight to find their way to each other. Yes Dustin had lots of anger and its not easy to deal with PTSD, but Kelcee was strong and helped him. Even though I didn't like the danger that Kelcee had to deal with I really liked how it helped be a catalyst for her and Dustin's relationship. As for Gina and Reece's story... well let me just say that it wouldn't have been as perfect as it was had it not been for Gina's daughter. She helps bring Reese out of that dark place he was in, and she was such a riot to boot. There was just one scene in the book that I might have been ok with Gina not talking about, but it is definitely a very necessary evil in the book. Like I said at the beginning of this review I am not ready for this series to end any time soon.
I give both these books 5 healing kisses...
Happy Reading... Adri
This book is the bomb!! You will so love it! I need more!!!
I loved reading about alpha hero Dustin Frank. After losing a leg, he becomes a former shell of himself, until his former CO calls on him to take some time to heal at his Texas ranch. Dustin goes to the ranch, whereupon in true small town fashion, the CO decides to play matchmaker, and does so with the owner of the bookstore. It starts out as helping with renovations for Kelcee, and despite a very rough start, they soon develop a friendship. This story will keep you enthralled, with its realistic picture of PTSD along with the real emotions as Kelcee and Dustin build their relationship. Can’t wait to read more about this group of soldiers!
