Thank you so much to net galley for sending me a copy of this book I was so excited to read it and I was a little disappointed. I don’t know if I would recommend it.
Fun, and cute, fantasy book that I enjoyed reading and would recommend to any young adult fantasy fan.
I don't know if this book was something I would choose to read again. I don't extremely love the fighting in the book, and would probably not read it.
I just couldn't get into this. The summary sounded great, but it just wasn't for me.
Thanks to NetGalley and Inkshares for the opportunity to read and review It's All Fun and Games by Dave Barrett. The prologue reveals an archer shooting at a group of friends. At first, it seems like a prank until they see that their friend is badly injured. Chapter One opens with teenagers planning a weekend trip to the woods for some LARPing- live action role-playing- and when they arrive in the woods, their roles are set out for them. They head out for their adventure and everything seems as it should be, for a while. The group meets other players at set stations and are given points, powers, caution and advice. Eventually, their roles, powers and enemies become real and they fall into danger. The commoners, thieves and creatures are real and so is the danger and violence. They have to rely on each other to survive. This unique book with a LARPing concept is fun, creative and original; 4 stars for a survival adventure wrapped up in a fantasy setting!
While this book is portrayed as a game of LARP, it's really not. It is more so alternative reality because the book starts as a game of LARP and mutates into real life. There were many phrases and words when I read them that made me shake my head at the cheesiness. But, if you're REALLY into LARP, I can see how you would truly like the book. It is definitely a different premise, and I like the hook of the story, just wish was written a little bit better.
This is a very light romp into the world of LARPing. Since I am not all that familiar with it they explained it very easily so that I could understand and enjoy the story. This seems like a YA book but I enjoyed it even as an adult. I actually would have preferred more of a resolution to the story. Perhaps it was meant to be longer.
The story involves a group of teenagers who go to a LARP event for the weekend. Somehow they wind up in the story. Death and power are real. They must figure out who to rescue and how to stay alive.
