I never thought I needed to know so much about butter. From the lactation physiology of cows and origins of butter in the pastures of the U.K. to the superstitions of Swedish farm wives who wanted to ensure their dairy luck, there is a whole lot of information in this book. Like, did you know, for instance, that before electricity, dogs were used to power butter churns? Or that women are credited for the building the butter trade? Neither did I.

Besides the interesting history of butter, this boon also offers a collection of recipes from cakes and breads to homemade ghee and cooked sauces like hollandaise and beurre blanc.

This was a very interesting book and I would recommend it for any foodie out there.
