Gritty and realistic portrayal of everyday life, both the good and the bad, of the men serving over in Iraq. The author spent 31 years in the military, which definitely infected his writing with the realism that made this book such an interesting read. This book centers on 2 U.S. Army officers in particular - Christian Wynn and Cole "Moose" Murphy, both in the 2nd Platoon, Delta Company. Each platoon chose the name of a dog breed and the 2nd platoon was known as the Wolfhounds. We follow the Wolfhounds as they try to navigate the strangeness of life in Iraq.
I enjoyed this book very much. The plot was engaging and interesting, and the characters were lifelike and well developed. We got to know a little bit about each of the men in the 2nd platoon, which made the action that much more fascinating.
