At a time when pollinators are threatened, we can all help the bees (and other pollinators) by planting our gardens with the right flowers to help them. This book gives plenty of options to help us navigate the right choices!

This primer includes not only specific species that are helpful for a vibrant bee population but also provides basics on the anatomy and interaction of flowers and bees. It explains what makes a good pollinator plant and includes tips for planting to help attract bees. Three key takeaways are to make sure that plants are acquired from a pesticide-free nursery, monitor the plants, and to plant a diverse selection of species to help control pests and provide beneficial food and shelter to a range of insects and animals. This is a great reference and useful to any who want help our fragile bee populations.

Strengthen the eco-system! (4 stars)

When I bought my house 7+ years ago I absolutely hated how unfriendly the yard was to pollinators. There was NOTHING to support them and I've considered them to be a vital part of the eco-system since I was a small child. I've spent each spring and summer working hard to provide what they need to combat the desert that is my neighborhood. One of my biggest challenges has been living in a dry, frigid climate. This book was tremendously educational and helped me find some new options to add once the weather permits.

If you love bees as much as I do but have had similar concerns and troubles this is a great resource to tap.

The news is full of reports at the moment about the potentially life changing situation we could find ourselves in if there are no longer any bees. They are vital for pollinating the flowers and some of the food we eat. This book is a good way of letting normal people help do their own little bit to protect the bees going forward and to give them more of a fighting chance. We have a small wildlife garden at the bottom of our house so we have bought some of these plants and are looking to get some more next spring/summer. Nice layout and easy to follow and read.
