Book 2.5 of the Winner Takes All series. Would work as a stand alone.
Miss Goodhue is a spinster teacher who lives with her sister's family. Her reputation was ruined when she ran away to elope Theo Hudson at sixteen. Her family caught them before the marriage took place, but the damage to her reputation was done. When she hears her young cousin has also ran away to marry, she goes to London to find her. As soon as she arrives, she runs into no other than Theo Hudson. The attraction is still there, but he hurt her when he abandoned her. Is the attraction enough?
I am not a fan of novellas in general. This was good for a novella. But I still found it way too short. I feel like you know Cecelia adequately, but Theo is still kind of a mystery.
I loved how all the ladies in town piled errands on her to "help" her. It was quite amusing.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
A simple romantic short read would i read this author again maybe but I might give awhile
Thank you Netgalley for a copy for an honest review
I really enjoyed Cecilia and Theo's story! It was a reunion story, which are always one of my favorites. I loved watching the two of them come back together after having been separated for 10 yrs. They both quickly realize that they still have feeling for each other, but also have doubts because of how their relationship ended. This was a great addition to the Winner Takes All series!
There was absolutely no meat on these bones! The story literally consisted of a man and woman dancing around each other, with just a little bit of extra bits thrown in just for the sake of saying that this is an actual story and not an author stalking fictional characters in her head.
Our apologies this book was never read and reviewed. If a review is done in the future, we will send a link.
Once again, Kate Noble delivers an amazing plot and ship set up but doesn’t bring the intense shippiness I expect from romance.
At this point, I’m starting to get a bit concerned tbh. I mean, I will totally keep reading Noble, but it’s a bit frustrating that she has these amazing tropes and somehow things just lack that passionate shipness of Julia Quinn or Tessa Dare. I think it’s just that she doesn’t really get as bantery.
With Miss Goodhue Lives for a Night, it was especially difficult not to compare Noble with Tessa Dare, since the premise has two former lovers separated by a misunderstanding reuniting. Dare’s novella Lord Dashwood Missed Out has a fairly similar basic set up, but it brings the ship in a way that Miss Goodhue simply does not. I do love the plot of the novella, which takes the aforementioned set up and mixes in a Pride and Prejudice element as they’re hunting down a run away cousin of Cecilia’s who disappeared with an officer.
Noble has really excellent writing, premises, and historical details, but I still have yet to fiercely ship a romance. *crosses fingers desperately for The Dare and the Doctor*
Cecilia is resigned to her fate as a schooleacher, living with her sister, who is married to a vicar. When a young cousin runs off to elope, Cecilia becomes determined to stop the girl from making the same mistake that ruined her own prospects. Problems arise when Cecilia runs into Theo, the boy she ran away with to elope all those years ago.
A cute quick romantic read.
