This is the best book I've read in decades. As I'm typing my review long after reading it, I can't remember character names, but I do remember the underlying plot and story and the feeling it gave me. I adored the protagonists, felt their losses and sadness, joyed in their triumphs and successes and pulled for them the entire time. This is another book I've read set during the Great Depression and it details the hardships and hopes of an orphaned brother and sister and their journey after leaving their grandfather's home and losing their father. It's a saddening and overjoying tale and I would recommend it to anyone who is willing to invest the heart and time.
