Couldn't quite get into this one, but I persevered. And... was disappointed.

Ascendant was an interesting if unoriginal story idea which was much darker than I was expecting, the problem I had with this book was that I could not care about the main character Sybelle as she felt lifeless and made decisions which I could never do. I just really struggled with Ascendant and I could not get into it and DNF at 42%.

Though the technical aspects of this book were good, I simply couldn't get into it despite several attempts. Thank you for allowing me to read ASCENDANT but due to the lack of interest in the title I have marked it as did-not-finish.

The teaser for this novel caught my interest. After a few stops and starts, I finally finished the book. The reluctant/hidden Princess is used a lot in young adult literature, so I was hoping for a new twist on the topic. The characters were flat, uninteresting, and unlikable. It was a shame because I think this book had a lot of potential.
