The Kingfountain series is an epic world with layers of storylines, lore, characters and much more. This series gets more vivid, and deeper and more complex each book that keeps you hooked and invested. Jeff Wheeler is a fantastic storyteller.
I really loved this series and the third book keeps the reader on the edge of his/her seat. It's full of twists and turns, moral dilemmas, compassion and love. Definitely recommend this series.
Love the characters and how they fell in love. Really good story!!
“We learn much through suffering,” she [Sinia] said. “But I think what we learn most is who we really are.”
(from The King’s Traitor)
Just like the previous book, The King's Traitor opens several years after the end of the previous book. In that time, Own Kiskaddon has grown to be a trusted member in King Severn’s court. However, Severn has become more ruthless as his power is threatened, and Owen barely recognizes his boyhood protector. As the threat of war looms on the horizon, Owen must decide where his true loyalties lie: with the power-mad King, or with the beautiful Duchess of a neighboring kingdom with Fountain magic more powerful than his own.
I don’t think I liked the characters as much in this one. Owen especially was grating. I get that he was heartbroken, but I feel that he was too mopey and felt too sorry for himself in terms of his love life. I get it, he was hurting. But he became bitter and sarcastic and cold-hearted to avoid being hurt again. After a while enough is enough, especially since it has been at least nine years.
However, I did enjoy The King’s Traitor, though maybe not quite as much as The Thief’s Daughter. My favorite part of these books (as always) is the intrigue – the plotting and scheming on all sides – as it is so intricately woven by the author. There were quite a few moments where I honestly did not know what course of events was going to take place, and though it was predictable on some level, I enjoyed watching the plot unfold and events take shape.
Thank you to NetGalley and 47North with providing me with a copy of this eBook in exchange for an honest review.
Did not finish. Lost interest on the series after a few pages into the book
The series to date has been really enjoyable and I especially enjoyed this "conclusion" to the series. It appears that three more books will be released this year that continue the saga and I am looking forward to it.
The story wraps up really nicely albeit maybe a little too perfectly in some ways. Although do not let that detract you from reading the series or this third book.
The story of Owen and Sinia unfolds nicely although there is so much room for more; and there is no shortage of strong supporting characters to enjoy.
If you are a fan of long drawn out battle scenes, then this will not satisfy that need. But if you are like me and don't want the gore, just the story, then this is perfect.
I hadn't read the first two books prior to this novel so I was rather confused. However, I have to say that I liked the characters and will definitely check before requesting again!
I got this book and once I read it I had to then go and get the first two of the series. I also bought more by the same author.
Very very clever books and some awesome character development. I love the fact the small things took an important point for how things progressed in the books. Bridging the magical realms even more with faeries intertwined with humans was good.
Great read and very much enjoyed.
