I'm sorry. I couldn't not get into this particular book. It's sounds amazing but just wasn't for me.
Princess Fuzzypants here: Being somewhat linear, I enjoy mysteries than go from point A to point B with a few twists and turns in between. I confess I was more than a little confused with this one and thus it did not grab me the way that some books do. Don’t get me wrong, there were things I loved about it. I particularly enjoy the banter between Foxtrot and her two furry helpers, Whiskey and Tango.
The paranormal events in the Crossroads graveyard are highly entertaining and the idea of a living animal refuge co-existing with a spectral one is imaginative and fun. I am not as enamoured with the human relationships but Foxtrot, assistant extraordinaire, proves she is more than capable of handling whatever is thrown her way- including two rival escapists, each accusing the other of some nefarious doings, with one of them ending up dead at the same time the other disappears. There is a lot of confusion. Not just for the reader but for Foxtrot as the two shapeshifters provide the key to whether or not the end of the world is nigh. The problem is no one is quite sure of the identity of anyone, with the exception of Foxtrot and a very few people.
I did enjoy the theatre of the absurd, exploits of the chemically driven aging rock star. His over the top antics were diverting and fun. . But that might also have been part of the problem for me. There was so much going on, it was difficult to focus on the main story line. I can see why Foxtrot was confused to almost the end. I was too.
Four purrs and one paw up.
This is the 5th book in this cozy , romantic , paranormal mystery series - I feel reading the previous books would be of benefit as the book is full of characters with complex back stories
Dierdre " Foxtrot" Lancaster is a PA working for zillionaire Iselda Zeranski - her life is extraordinary -
from her cohorts Tango ( a cat on his ninth life )and Whiskey (a ghost dog able to manifest into any type of dog) to her menagerie of rescued animals, and don't forget the Pet Cemetry next door ............ her life is anything but ordinary .
Her boss loves to give parties , the more extravagant the better - this latest one has 'magic' on show leading to murder .
It will take all Dierdre's wits , along with her cohorts to solve this cozy , murder mystery ..... the end of the world just might be at stake - oh did I forget to mention her love Ben, an ancient Thunderbird ? he just happens to be
an enemy of the party's escape artist , an Unktehila ........... what a hilarious , murder mystery
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
I was invited to read this cozy mystery and I thoroughly enjoyed.
Even if it's the 5th in a series I had no issues as there a lot of backstory that helped me to understand the characters and the world-building.
There's plenty of world building and it's interesting and original.
The characters are well thought: Foxtrot is an interesting and clever woman, Whiskey and Tango are funny and fleshed out. My favorite animals were Oswald the ostrich and the honey badger.
The mystery is complex and the investigation is more on the paranormal than the mundane side. It kept me guessing.
I want to read the other books in this series, this one is highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Foxtrot and her companions are on the case. A cryptic call sets in motion what could be the end of the world as we know it. These two groups have been fighting with each since the beginning of time. They've managed to co-exists but there is a hit squad out for the Thunderbirds. The Unktehila have a list but no one knows where it went to. Unless a murder can be solved, the war is on. Into the mix is The Serpent who keeps giving Foxtrot parables. In the end, she solves both murders, stops a war and calms the chaos.
I found this cozy mystery to be a more difficult than relaxing read. I think it would have been easier if I had read previous books. Between the list of quirky characters and the voices popping into her head I was scrambling to read and reread and THINK too hard for a comfy cozy mystery. Not for me but for others maybe.
This was a fun paranormal cozy. The murder mystery was so much fun, and I had a good time trying to predict what would happen. The characters were fantastic, and I loved the setting.
A fun, fresh and interesting cozy mystery.
Purrfectly Dead was my first experience with Whiskey, Tango and Foxtrot and will definitely not be the last. Dixie Lyle has something very unique with this series and she has this reader very intrigued.
Deirdre “Foxtrot” Lancaster is an assistant for a
super rich social life with a short attention span and extravagant tastes. Foxtrot never knows what could possibly happen when ZZ throws a party. She can never say she is lacking for excitement. Foxtrot has an unique ability to communicate with Whiskey and Tango, who are departed animals and her companions. Foxtrot is very interesting. She has the ability to get things done, smart and funny.
Purrfectly Dead is extremely interesting. I have to admit I read through the book twice before I could even try to make anything into a review. I don’t wanna say that I was confused but I need to go slower and realize what was going on. Foxtrot it’s hysterical and I love the way that she interacts with everyone. From humans to the animals to the departed animals. A different take on a who done it murder mystery but one that has you guessing with the turn of every page. I very much enjoyed the world building within the story. The Thunderbirds that control the weather is a very interesting concept and I look forward to going back and reading previous books in the series just to be a little bit more informed of what’s going on in this vast world. I will admit I was not able to figure out the who done it on this one and with the paranormal and magic aspect it made it very interesting to conclusion at the end.
Purrfectly Dead is the fifth delightful book in the Whiskey, Tango & Foxtrot Mystery series.
I have read many cozy mysteries but this was a new reading twist for me as it's also a read with the paranormal added to it.
There are many characters to wade through at first but once I got them all straight they added to the enjoyment of the story.
Deidre “Foxtrot” is personal assistant to zillionaress Zelda Zoransky who throws the most fabulous parties. The evenings festivities include a high-stakes game between two escape artists locked in a bitter rivalry.
When one of the escape artists winds up dead there are plenty of suspects ,
Shapeshifters, paranormal, keep your attention events and fascinating characters are at your disposal.
Looking forward to what's next by this author.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book. Thank you.
All opinions expressed are my own.
First time in reading this author with the story looking pleasing. Always up for a good mystery so this is another reason why this caught my attention. The characters in this were enough in itself to be a strong reason to read this one. I also love the mystery that surrounds Houdini so this had bits of his personality it would seem in a couple of characters but alas one ends up dead. The colorful line up of suspects is what they have to work with. The mystery has you turning the pages for all the clues to see whom the culprit is.
Pretty good mystery. Predictable but super fun. Definitely a good light read to pass a day. I certainly recommend it for all the mystery fans.
Purrfectly Dead: A Whiskey, Tango & Foxtrot Mystery by Dixie Lyle
Publisher: St. Martin's Press
Genre: Mystery & Thrillers
Publication: Date April 27, 2021
Purrfectly Dead is the fifth book in the Whiskey, Tango & Foxtrot Mystery series by Dixie Lyle. I had not read the previous books in the series, but was able to easily read this as a standalone mystery.
This was a fun cozy mystery. I loved the supernatural elements! I really enjoyed the story line. The characters make the story very interesting. I enjoyed trying to solve the mystly!
I look forward to reading the other books in the series!
I'm so grateful to Dixie Lyle, St. Martin's Press, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this ARC ebook in exchange for my honest review.
What’s better than a cozy mystery with animals.? A paranormal animal cozy is just what I needed to read. This is the the fifth book in the Whiskey Tango and Foxtrot series. Foxtrot and her psychic cat Tango and her shapeshifting dog Whiskey once again find themselves tangles in a mystery. It’s a fun book with quirky characters and gave me that comforting feeling I desire from a cozy. There was a good mystery with many suspects and I enjoyed the conclusion from the book as well. I look forward to th eject book in this series.
Purrfectly Dead is a paranormal romantic suspense by Dixie Lyle. I have about 2 books a year that I just can't force myself to finish. This was one of them. This paranormal story had me confused in just a few minutes and it grew as I continued to read. I put the book down and read something else and then went back. Over and over but I just couldn't get into this story. There were too many characters and "things, creatures, shape-shifting ghosts, whatever" popping in and out. All the voices in Foxtrot's head was hard to keep track of. Bottom line, this was just not the book for this old gal. Purrfectly Dead is book 5 of the Whiskey, Tango & Foxtrot Mystery Series and I may have understood this book easier if I had read those first. I'm not saying this is a bad book, just not a book I can get into.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is the first book I have read in this series and it was hard to wade thru all the characters at first, but it was ok and I thoroughly enjoyed it after that.
As soon as I saw that Purrfectly Dead was available for request on NetGalley I couldn't stop smiling. Welcome back Dixie Lyle! Let me just say, the wait was worth it. Deidre "Foxtrot" Lancaster and her paranormal cat and dog are back and in fine form. Right from the start the reader knows this is going to be an entertaining fun read. Her boss is super, super rich and is known to all as ZZ. She loves to entertain and throws wonderful, off the wall parties with a colorful guest list. This time magic is on show and murder is the result. Foxtrot has her hands full working as ZZ's personal assistant on a daily basis and homicides are par for the course in their circle.
When not managing the household she is the steward of the paranormal pet cemetery that acts as a portal. I won't go into more detail as I don't want to spoil it for those of you who are new to the series. The animals, the people, the madcap world of Foxtrot, Tango and Whiskey along with ZZ and Ben...well it all makes for a rollicking good read. It works as a standalone but reading them in order is even better.
My thanks to the publisher St. Martin's and to NetGalley for giving me an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
When I was offered this read, at first I did know what to do of it, it is a bit outside my usual read, even if I read from time to time mystery but they are historical fiction/Thriller&mystery with usually a dash of romance in it.
Yet the blurb presented it a paranormal mystery and I love paranormal romance, why not give it a go.
This said, I liked the global lightness of the story and if I was a bit lost with the many characters and pnr beings inhabiting the pages, the leading character is fun, talking to herself as if she has a listener, well she had one, me, and thankful for the crash course I was given about who was who in her close surrounding.
So there is Foxtrot, assistant extraordinary, the heroine who can talk with ghosts, her two acolytes Tango, the umpteenth reincarnation of her childhood cat and Whiskey a shape-shifting ghost dog.
In this investigation, she must discover what true goal the victim and the supposed murderer had to determine on which side they were and then maybe prevent a war between supernatural species with humanity as a casualty.
It was quite a rollercoaster ride, as while all is set in one place, the trio goes back and forth between one spot to another, alternating between breathing and haunting beings.
In the end, it was more a quest without dragons than a mystery, as Fox’s role was to find a way out of the war brewing than really catch the culprit.
Then the romance reader in me wondered about Fox’s relationship with her said boyfriend Ben, I did not really fell like there was much chemistry or interaction between them, they were much more like friends with benefits than lovers.
Why I would recommend to read at least the first book to catch up with the author’s world and immerse more easily in the intrigue.
4 stars
𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 light kisses and closed the door lovemaking.
I have been offered an advance copy by the publisher St Martin’s Paperbacks, here is my true and unbiased opinion.
This is the fifth book in this does, but the first I've read. I struggled a little in the beginning with all the characters and such, but I ended up enjoying the book overall. There are paranormal elements, which I enjoy, fun characters (after I got them all straight in my mind), and an interesting whodunit. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor.
Know that this is a reissue of a book originally published several years ago but no matter- it's still a fun fast (more of a novella) read for fans of cozies featuring cats. In fact, know as well that it's the cats that do much of the detecting! Max helps Odelia, his human companion, as she investigates the murder of an 80s pop star. And, he's also, more reluctantly, helping her help Chase, whose cat Brutus is, well a bully. It's a different sort of cozy that will appeal to those willing to suspend belief wrt to the animals. The mystery isn't too twisty and the cats are as well written as the humans. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
Deidre “Foxtrot” Lancaster,, PA extraordinaire, is with her supernatural dog and cat, Tango and Whiskey. She has to throw a party for her boss, Zelda Zoransky. Things should go well, but nothing ever really goes well in Foxtrot's life. That's what happens when you have so many people in a huge mansion with a lot of crazy people, animals, shapeshifters and ghosts to deal with every day.
Then, she has to deal with two deaths and try to find someone who has disappeared.
This book is a funny, fantastical riot of personalities, that gives new meaning to the term, 'Newton's Law.'
I absolutely LOVED IT!!!
