Honestly, the first word that comes to mind when I think back on this book is "pointless".
We have a princess MC, someone I should at least want to root for, given that she is going to be forced into marriage with any royal man her father chooses, probably an old fart to boot, and just wants out of the situation, but somehow she comes across as pretty unlikable. She's rude, whiny, not smart at all, and just doesn't come off as either likable or really even a unique character.
This is a short novella, 100 pages. We have three POVS: Madeline, her father the king, and Daniel, the knight. Honestly, a lot of the King's chapters I was confused why they were even there. Daniel came off a bit better, so noble and willing to do whatever it takes to get Madeline back, but he still struggles to come off super well because he definitely falls under the category of "insta-love".
Everything is here is horribly generic. There's no humor, it's not engaging, the characters come off mostly like cardboard cutouts, and there just wasn't any point to the story.
