After 9/11, the country faced a shortage of all goods including food and medication. Then there was a biological agent that caused a pandemic The electrical grid was inoperable for years and martial law ruled. Now there is no separation of church and state. The United States is a Christian nation. If you go against the rules in the Bible, you are punished publicly and tortured to confess.
This was a difficult book to read for me. It was scary and too close to the truth in our current political scenario. It had a steady pace, the characters were somewhat developed, and it was written in the third person point of view. There were a lot of characters to keep track of in the story. If you like books like 1984 or other big brother type stories, you may enjoy reading this one.
This novel, set in the future is eerily predictive. It deals with terrorism, nuclear disaster, and mis placed power.
The type of novel that will keep you up at night !
Rather exaggerated story but did make me think. Certain elements of politics and lifestyle in the US are probably not a million miles away from this
This book didn't really grab me, so I couldnt finish it. It seemed like a dsytopian premsie that would engage me more than it did - maybe I just started it on the wrong day
A good i would tell my friends to read this book a must read
A not too far fetched look at the possible future of America under Christian Fundamentalist rule. The scary Thing about this book is that there are parallels with the present time. Overall it is well written, slightly exagerated, which makes it entertaining, and the plot moves along nicely.
