witty, informative, and good natured. enjoyed reading front to back and will probably be purchasing it for my nieces in the future
This book is great - witty, funny full of good and honest information that a girl really does need to hear at this time of their life - I wish I had a book like that when I was that age, it really is one of the toughest times you go through and this books shows you, you aren't alone, the other girls probably feel the same and it isn't all fashion and image that counts in the long run, every body is different and you are all going to go through the same thing - it covers everything from family relationships to sex and sexuality - 5 stars from me
Being a Girl by Hayley Long and Gemma Corell is a must for tween and teen girls. Her handy guide to some of puberty's most trying times is sure to help anyone who has ever been lost, confused, misinformed, or downright embarrassed in their middle and high school years. That is to say, everyone. My only criticism? While I have been a long time fan of Gemma Correll's illustrations, and love their humor and charm, I would have really really really liked to see some of the girls in the book clearly represented as girls of color. I would definitely have purchased this book for my library, but had misgivings since the illustrations don't reflect the student body in the slightest. Some girl troubles are universal, and it doesn't detract from the advice given. But it is definitely something I noticed. I'm also not too fond of the boy sections of the books. Boys should not be used as a measure for what's acceptable for girls, even in a non serious, non humorous way. Let girls reign supreme in a book about girls.
