Goldworthy's description of the break down in the political culture of republican rome provides timely insight on the role that societal attitudes play in the maintenance of the political order. He provides these insights in an interesting and approachable writing style.that should appeal to anyone interested in history. These insights are particularly timely in the context of current political events.
Pax Romana is a fascinating book! Goldsworthy pours a wealth of information into these pages and I felt like I learnt something new on every page. At times it can be difficult to keep reading since there is so much information that you need to take in. I got confused between dates and people frequently but Goldsworthy does his best to keep the confusion and jargon to a minimum for the lay reader!
I am not as familiar with Roman history as I am with other eras, but Adrian Goldsworthy’s Pax Romana piqued my interest. This book is both thorough, and engaging. I enjoyed the anecdotes that Goldsworthy inserts amidst the historical details, and after having read Pax Romana, I now have a much better understanding of Roman history. I would definitely recommend this book to others, and I will likely seek out more of Goldsworthy’s books in the future.
