A nice easy read mystery. Kept my interest throughout. Believable characters. Recommended.
Walk into Silence is a tense and absorbing psychological thriller and Susan McBride writes with a sharp edge and a clever eye towards characterisation that just draws you in.
I liked how there was hidden common ground between the woman who has disappeared and the woman who is trying to find her – the plot is solid and addictive and the question of whether Jenny has gone by choice or by force is one that keeps you reading. The lines are blurred, there are some dark themes and current issues underneath the outer narrative and the whole story was riveting.
It is at times thrilling then melancholy, the storytelling is solidly compelling and its one of those books where you just want everything to be ok but realise that it probably won’t be. As a reader I became emotionally invested in the characters quite early on, always something that needs to happen for me to enjoy a novel.
Overall I thought it was very good indeed. And I’m happy that it seems this will become a series. I would love to read more.
Exactly what you want from a psychological thriller - lots of red herrings casting doubts on obvious suspects but keeping you guessing until the end. There were times when the main character made irrational decisions, putting herself in needless jeopardy that were inconsistent with how she was portrayed throughout the novel. This is a small bone to pick but it was a someone distracting.
This book was excellent and held my interest right through to the end. I would definitely recommend it.
Jo Larsen is met with a man at the precinct that claims his wife is missing. She is skeptical that the missing woman was just running away from life for a bit. On further investigation, things look a lot more desolate. Jo finds suspicious angles from her financially controlling first husband, and dismissive ex-husband. The more Jo investigates the more dangerous things get will she be able to find the truth before it’s too late?
In an Oyster Shell – A page-turning thriller that will have you reading without putting the book down.
The Pearls – The opening of the book had me intruiged. A detective with a hard past. She finds herself along the way of investigating the disappearance of Jenny Dielman. Weaving personal and professional life she does her best to find the truth. The adventure of following her was an intense ride.
The mystery was really good. It kept you guessing and in the end there where multiple guilty parties. The author is really good at writing mystery. I can’t wait to read her other books.
There were a lot of characters involved. It was easy to keep up with them all. The author’s characters were defined and distinctive. It was definitely a character driven narrative.
The Sand – There was a little bit of head hopping it was hard to know sometimes who’s perspective the reader was in.
