I really enjoyed this book (I almost hate to admit it...), in a weird sort of way. I know it has gotten a lot of bad and mixed reviews, but I don't think it deserves all the negativity. I do agree that marketing this as a psychological thriller was not a good idea, because it really isn't that. But, it IS a really good look into the mind of a middle-aged woman in crisis. As I read the things Evelyn said and did, both Before and After, I could sympathize. In a parallel universe, it could have been me. I wouldn't make the choices she did in this life, but it's not too far fetched to see where she is coming from. I found that I can't stop thinking about it, so I have upped it to a solid 4 *s. I think it would make a good discussion book among friends or in a book club. To avoid spoilers, I can't say more. Just take a chance on it, if you can think of it more as a Women's fiction than psychological thriller:)

Although this is described as a thriller, I saw it as a boring, drawn out disaster. The only thrilling part was when I got to 100% (on Kindle).
When Evelyn’s husband, Gary, calls her late at night to pull his car out of a ditch, Evelyn obeys, but is horrified that there is another woman with him. While still reeling from the implications of the previous night, Evelyn turns on the local news to learn that a young girl has been hit by a car and killed, suspiciously near where Gary had his accident. Uncertain what she should do next, Evelyn embarks on a roller coaster ride of revenge fantasies and blackmail, fueled by her righteous anger at the situation Gary has placed her in.
Hmm. Gary cheats. Evelyn finds out. She Facebook stalks the “other woman” and has an affair with her husband. There’s a suicide attempt, a renewed interest in painting, new clothes…and I never could find any definitive point at which Evelyn, Before became Evelyn, After. Unless the point was that there was no one thing that shifted her world, that it was a combination of things that all worked together to free her from her life as a suburban housewife. Anyway, the book was all right. Not wonderful, and not awful. Just all right.
I did enjoy this book. The main character was psychologically interesting. A little bit of mystery to keep it moving. I would recommend as an easy read.
Though I enjoyed this book, I don't know that I would categorize it as a "psychological thriller." It seemed like more of a novel that deals with a woman handling her husband's betrayal. Still a good read, though.
Evelyn, After is a book that twists, and turns, and twists again, until you are so angst-ridden you have to finish the book to learn how it all plays out. The mark of a good book is if I am willing to lost sleep over it. I lost sleep for Evelyn, After.
Even reading the back blurb, I thought this book would be twisted, but it went even farther than I thought it would. Sometimes the 'before' and 'after' got a little muddled for me and I had to go back to the beginning of the chapter to find out which time I was in. Overall, a taut, suspenseful story that kept me on my toes.
Evelyn has just discovered that her husband has been cheating on her, but she also believes that's not the only secret he's hiding. But in her quest for answers and revenge, she might go too far. Told in alternating chapters between the "Before" and the "After," we see how Evelyn's life falls apart and the lengths she goes to in an attempt to put it back together. While this could be considered a romance novel, don't let that discourage you if romance isn't your genre. This novel portrays the difficulties of maintaining a marriage when you can't trust the person you love, as well as delving into the psychological turmoil of betrayal and guilt.
