Dave Barry is always a reliable read when you need laugh-out-loud observations, and now that his weekly column is gone the occasional books are desperately needed. Here, he defends his (and my) much-maligned state of Florida and points out how we got the rep we did, why we didn't always deserve it, and sometimes where we most definitely did. Barry lists the important destinations for weird Florida -- although he mostly gives north Florida a pass -- and even gets near me by taking a swing at Cassadaga, the oldest spiritualist camp in the US.
Dave Berry is a funny man. However, this book seems thrown together without his usual amount of wit and humor.
Fun and funny! Dave Barry is always a good laugh. I had to stop listening and come back to this one when I was reading The Hogfather by Terry Pratchett. Dave Barry's humor is more heavy handed and not as much word play or as intellectual as Terry Pratchett. I found Best. State. Ever much more enjoyable when not suffering in comparison. Lots of laugh out loud moments. Dick Hill is not my favorite narrator, but the material overcame his delivery.
