Madeline Finn struggles to read out loud in class. However, she has a goal - she wants a star sticker like the other children who get rewarded for reading out loud. Her mom decides to surprise her with a trip to the library where she gets to practice reading to a special friend - a puppy! Bonnie helps teach Maddie that it's okay to take your time, it's okay to make mistakes, and to always keep trying. This is a cute book to encourage hesitant readers. The publisher also released a free activity kit full of worksheets and games to reinforce the story (it can be accessed here: http://peachtree-online.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Madeline-Finn-event-kit_small-file.pdf).

a creative story about the beauty of the relationship between child and animal and the love of reading with pets. Really enjoyed reading this book with my children.

This is a beautiful book that shows one type of support that therapy dogs provide, and some of the good that they can accomplish by their steady presence. I have two therapy dogs that have supported senior citizens in senior living, nursing homes, memory care units, and hospice, and it is amazing how people open up around dogs. This book accurately portrays the magic.

I loved this story! I’ve been reading of programs where kids read to dogs, and that is embodied in this story. The resolution is satisfying.
