Stopping at 6%. Not for me.
I'm on this project right now of unearthing older books on my Kindle, and I downloaded this one in 2016. I don't know, maybe Past SuperWendy would have enjoyed this - but Present Day SuperWendy just could not. In the first chapter the heroine is getting dragged out of a coffee shop by an abusive ex. The hero intervenes. The heroine's thought when she sees the hero riding to her rescue? How attractive he is. While she's being dragged off by her abusive ex. Look, the human brain works in mysterious way but if I was in danger my first thought would be "get the hell away" not "wow, my rescuer is a total snack."
On top of that, the hero is former military and is now an arms dealer working out of Kansas City. I mean, maybe if this was a thriller - but published by Carina Press and marketed as a romance? No thank you ma'am.
Dark and steamy…
This story had all the hallmarks of a read made just for me. A dark, mafia storyline was all it took for me to dive right in. Ex-military, Tripp was a dangerous alpha through and through, no matter what he did and it wasn’t all good… Terra was a part of the same world though as a pampered daughter she was many steps away from the violence. Or she was…
I wanted to connect with the characters, to get engaged in the danger-filled plotline but something didn’t spark for me. I wish it had…
It wasn't the book for me, and while I like that male authors are in the romance world, the authors writing was just too blunt for my taste
My first book by Scott Hildreth and I'm asking myself why didn't I read it sooner? Michael Tripp is basically a good guy retired Marine who saw way to much war. Just trying to make a living so he can retire to Belize, his job just happens to be a gun runner with strong morals. Terra is a actually Mafia Princess who is just drifting through life looking for a true purpose. A sweet meet-cute, he beats the hell out of her ex-boyfriend in the Starbucks parking lot. Michael and Terra are both keeping secrets from one another, can they work it out is the issues.
I can't wait to read the next in this series.
