Kira Vidal is fifteen years old. He is also a Deathbringer. His touch can cause death, but his blood can bring a form of life. He has been living with his uncle, Eutau, since his birth when his mother died. Eutau runs a a mortuary and hides Kira’s skill. One evening, the agents come to their dwelling. His uncle had planned an escape route Kira runs but knows the agents are close behind him. He grabs a tree and feels the life experiences it had. Next thing he knows, he wakes briefly and sees an old woman.
The book has a building pace, somewhat developed characters, and it was written in the third person point of view. This is a sold sci fi, fantasy story.
The Deadbringer by E.M. Markoff; Ellderet series beginner excels in world-building. The writing is smooth and flowing as it carries the reader on a journey where dark forces include hunters and hunted in a scarred and embattled land. If you like your fantasy with just a touch of horror, you’ve found it with this read.
Sorry for the inconvenience but I have lost interest in this book, I just can’t get past 50% of the story. I have tried several times to finish reading but I have hit a wall with this one.
Thank you for considering me.
Loved the concept and the dark story! I found it a bit slower at the beginning and needed to stick with it.
Great story line and good use of detail. I only wish the author had taken more time in the beginning to introduce the characters and their backstory, rather than jumping into the action so quickly and then trying to back-fill pertinent details about personalities. The story moves forward rapidly, but the author has a judicious use of cutting out at the end of pivotal scenes and letting the reader imagine the rest. Overall I give it four stars because the story line is very creative and novel, with an interesting magic system, and intriguing characters, but the prose needs a little work - a little more 'showing instead of telling' as regards emotion, etc.
A real page turner from a new voice in a dark fantasy series. I look forward to more from this author.
First off, thank you for a copy of this book. I was hesitant about putting in my opinion, but realized that every review counts. Good or bad. Unfortunately, I didn't care for this book. I was unable to get into the characters and fully grasp the world. It just wasn't for me.
