This didn't hit for me for a couple of reasons: the slow burn was almost too slow for a book that was supposed to be on the bdsm level of erotica. I didn't believe that the heroine would have made the relationship choices she did, and I would have liked to see a deeper connection.

School Ties is a contemporary romance by Tamsen Parker. This book is a forbidden romance between a former student and a teacher. Sadly, this book was not just my cup of tea. I found the writing and story to be all over the place, I didn't find the romance sexy, and I couldn't connect with the characters. When you add all of that up, I just couldn't get into the story. I wish I could, but I just couldn't. I'm sure kink lovers out there will enjoy this book, but it wasn't for me.

I'm always a goner for teacher student stories so instantly was intrigued by School Ties. Erin is a teacher at Hawthorne Hall, an all boys academy she knows well from summers visiting her grandfather. Zach is one of her students and he is desperately attracted to her, but both know they cannot pass that forbidden line. Fast forward and Zach has graduated from college and returns to the school with the hopes his favorite teacher is still there. Now that he's an adult he brings his kinky desires with him which Erin happens to share. I have to admit to not liking Erin very much. She lacked the backbone I prefer in my female leads. That lack of backbone complicates the story because of the situation she allowed herself to get stuck in. I also wasn't 100% convinced of the chemistry between Zach and Erin. At the end I enjoyed this story well enough, but it ultimately wasn't a favorite.
