I received this free eARC novel from NetGalley. This is my honest review.
This has been on my TBR pile for so long, and I'm glad I finally got around to it. I really enjoyed the storyline and seeing the characters change throughout the story was a great character development. The plot was great and kept my attention. I'm glad I got the chance to read this and will be on the lookout for more in the future!
Amazing story with different sides and quite developed characters. The main focus is where Kade truly belongs (which most can relate to in some way) and her love with Cole. Full of twists and a well-paced plot this book is an easy and enjoyable read. Would love to read the rest of the series!
DNF at 10%
While the synopsis sounds interesting, I found myself really confused and irritated for the 10% I read of this book. For the first 2 or 3 chapters, we got a whole lot of terms in both latin and english and a lot of setting-jump with no explanations. And then it reminds me too much of City of Bones: demon hunter, meeting in a club, creatures only our female mc could see... it's just too much. Not to mention the so obvious it's going to be insta love thingy between Cole and Kadance, it's mentioned in the synopsis but the way it went down, again, it reminds me to CoB.
I just finished reading this book and I have to say that I am disappointed; disappointed that I have to wait for the continuation of the story as this installment was just released.
The beginning of the story left me in much confusion. Much as the heroine of this story, I couldn't figure out what the sides were let alone who was good and who was bad. By the middle of the story, I didn't care anymore who was what. I was equally infatuated with Kade's love interest, forbidden or not. Kadence Sparrow enters a new town the summer before her senior year. Daughter of a neurosurgeon, she was prone to moving wherever her father's job took them. She lives by rules to protect a secret: no boyfriends, no close friends, show no one who you really are. All these rules come crashing down when she meets Cole Spires. Crystallum is part modern day Romeo and Juliet and part sci-fi demon hunters, reminiscent of Cassandra Clare's Shadowhunters. I highly recommend it and, one more thing, she really caught me with the antagonist. I did not see that coming! Read the book!
Not my bag of tea. Great premise that didn't follow through.
I really struggled to read CRYSTALLUM, finding the protagonist annoying and unlikable, and the writing awkward and unnatural, especially with the dialogue. After about the 50% mark I ended up DNFing this book.
This book was pretty good and kinda reminded me of the series by Cassandra Clare, which I love. Some spots were slow but overall really good. This was interesting with the main character and what she is. Also has a great opposites attract thing going. Hope there is more from this author!
