This book is the story of Holocaust rescuer Irena Sendler written on a youth level. In the past few years, a handful of books have been written on this subject, but this is the only one geared to an upper elementary level audience. Recommended for school and public libraries.

The story of Irena Sendlar's life during the 1930s and 1940s is inspiring and heartbreaking. Irena matter of factly risked her life to save Jews who would have been killed by the Nazis. She was captured and tortured, but the Nazis never broke her. She saved more lives than Schindler!
