The biggest surprise was the use of the title in the book. Other books that I read did not include the name of the book. Andrew Dartford is dubbed "The Duke of Daring" by Lucy Parnell and two other women.
Neither Andrew nor Lucy want to be married. Andrew suffers from survivor's guilt. Lucy does not want to be left like her grandmother and mother were.
In one chapter alone, I felt joy and excitement one moment. However worry was not very far. This is where I questioned if the book would have a happy ending.
The Duke of Daring was written by Darcy Burke. While I have read another of Mrs. Burke's books, this is the first regency romance novel I read.

The one thing I liked about this book was that it got down to business right out the bat. We knew who was the main character, why she was doing what she was doing and got help from Andrew. Good, we were off to a nice start.
But as the book went on it started to get boring and I realized that it was because nothing was actually happening. All the conflict in the book was easily resolved, so it had no build-up. Like for instance, there was a blackmail plot introduced but it was resolved soon after in the next chapter and very easy as well.
This book also had the flow of having no depth to it. The author told us what was happening or what people were feeling instead of describing it for us. In the end, the beginning of the book was good, but I have no interest in reading the rest of the series.

When Lucy gets caught posing as man in a gambling hall it is her worst nightmare. How the Earl of Dartford saw what no one else did is a mystery to her. But she will not be deterred. She will win enough money to retire to the country with her grandmother, that is if Andrew will leave her alone.
Andrew does not understand how anyone cannot see the young man at the gaming table is a woman. When he calls her out on it and tells her not to do so again, he expects it to be the end of it. However, he then finds himself accompanying the stubborn female if only to keep her out of trouble.
As the two spend more and more time together they find that they want more, but as both have been hurt terribly in the past it is going to be hard to get past the fear of being vulnerable. Finally as Lucy admits how she feels about him she has to fight to get to him in time before he risks his life to keep a promise to his dead brother.
Great story. I am loving the Untouchables series and cannot wait to read more.

A perfect romance plane read that fulfilled all of my needs.

In The Duke of Daring, our self-assured and independent heroine, Lucinda Parnell does the unthinkable in 'ton' eyes. With the threat of poverty nipping at her heels, Lucinda takes an extremely dangerous and calculating risk by dressing as a man and gambling for money. I love reading about heroines who are independent! BUT, she is being closely watched by none other than Andrew Wentworth, the Earl of Danforth...whom she and her friends titled 'The Duke of Daring'. Andrew clearly sees through her disguise and decides to help her succeed. She is maddeningly steadfast in doing things her way...without him, and he is honorably driven to decline her wishes for no help. They've both been through heartache and does not want to take the risk again, but, the chemistry between the two becomes incinerating! And their carefully built wall around their hearts aren't enough to keep out the love they begin to feel for each other. This story is full of passion and heartfelt moments that kept my eyes glued to the pages. I cared about both characters and wanted to see their happy ending. I would recommend this book to any proclaimed romance reader!

I really enjoyed Lucy and Andrew's story! Lucinda was great! She needed money so that her and her grandmother could love a comfortable life and she did what she needed to be able to provide that. Andrew taking her under his wing and letting her go out with the boys was a great storyline and I enjoyed it immensely. I loved watching these two fall in love as they enjoyed their adventures together.
I'm loving this series and can't wait for the next one!
