It’s 1914 and Poppy is working in service for the wealthy de Vere family. As the youngest son starts to pay her attention, Poppy decides to make a change and join her country in service as a VAD/nurse assistant. At the hospital, her strength is tested, but Poppy soon comes to love the work, and the attention of Freddie de Vere, who is serving in the war and stringing Poppy along.

When Poppy’s romantic hopes are thwarted, she finds herself going abroad to work nearer to the frontlines, where she finds her hard work tested and undervalued, but soon forms great friendships and attachments, while her world changes completely.

Fascinating read, if anything it ended sort of abruptly and I really fell in love with this character and wanted to know more about her. Loved these two books!
