A very good collection of short stories. As someone who loves cars (although, I'll admit I don't know that much about them) and also driving, this looked like a perfect collection of crime/mystery stories for me. I was not wrong.
I was initially attracted to the collection because it included a story by Michael Connelly (easily one of my favourite authors of any genre) - fans of his novels will be happy to learn that "Burnt Matches" takes place in Mickey Haller's Lincoln towncar.
An excellent collection of stories. It introduced me to some authors who were new or unknown to me, as well as featured some long-time favourites.
Very highly recommended.
The authors of these different stories are all well-known and have made each story an interesting tale around the vehicle that is being used to describe the action that is happening. The different authors which I have read most at one time or another keep the stories entertaining like other ones that I have read from there’s. The difference is the vehicle in each story and the description of each one. Anyone who loves cars or even the Dodge power wagon will be happy with each story. I was and I am glad I took the time to read this book. I received this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 4 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com

Thrilling crime stories about cars, driving, and the road from the world's bestselling and critically acclaimed writers.
Like fiction, cars take us into a different world: from the tony enclaves of upper crust society to the lowliest barrio; from muscle car-driving con men to hardscrabble kids on the road during the Great Depression; from a psychotic traveling salesman to a Mexican drug lord who drives a tricked-out VW Bus. We all share the roads, and our cars link us together.
Including entirely new stories from Michael Connelly, C.J. Box, George Pelecanos, Diana Gabaldon, James Sallis, Ace Atkins, Luis Alberto Urrea, Sara Gran, Ben H. Winters, and Joe Lansdale, THE HIGHWAY KIND is a street-level look at modern America, as seen through one of its national obsessions.
I was very interested in reading this collection of stories - featuring some of my favourite authors, I thought this was a no-brainer. But, as is always the case with anthologies, some of the stories really worked for me - others just didn't. And that is to be expected - if every story or author was the same (or told the same story), we wouldn't need more than one author.
My highlights from this were:
"Power Wagon" by C. J. Box
"The Triple Black 'Cuda" by George Pelecanos
"Driving To Geronimo's Grave" by Joe R. Lansdale (of course!)
"Hanna Martinez" by Sara Green
"The Pleasure Of God" by Luis Alberto Urrea

A nice book with a collection of short stories. Cars, drivers, and crimes.
I thought this book would be interesting but some of the stories in it I didn't really care for. Others were great.
Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book.
I loved this book. First of all I like cars, and love the creativity of this anthology that uses a car in the story as a focal point. Very creative and ingenious seeing as how different all of them are. Also, there are some great authors featured in this tome, Kelly Braffet, Michael Connelly, C. J. Box, and many others. The stories vary thematically, but all are entertaining and some are downright haunting. A great treat!
A great collection of well selected short stories about crime and cars. Although this collection is marketed as all about cars, even for someone like me - who really only sees the car as a form of transportation - it's still very accessible. There were a couple of stand out stories from Ben Winters and C. J. Box which in my mind made the book. The crime and noir feels to these stories is really what sold it to me. However, all the stories seemed to leave me wanting more and I was a little reluctant always to begin the next. But that's shorts for you.
A very disparate collection of stories, the majority of which held my attention and I enjoyed immensely. However, as in most collections there were a few that I could not get into and skimmed over them. In the main though I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it.
What a fun book. Authors I like and a main subject that I like. Short stories are both really tough to write; well written ones can be a true pleasure to read.
There are several stories that are lighter, for the most part, most of them are pretty dark.
The selection of authors is wonderful and to read how each of them bring their stories and messages to life is an excellent read.
Really enjoyed and recommend.
