I requested this one back in the day as I had every intention of reading it. However, its been years and I still haven't gotten around to it and while I feel guilty at not reviewing a book I think that I need to admit to myself that I won't be reading this one anytime soon....if at all.
I couldn't resist re-visiting my teenage years by reading The Dead Boyfriend by R.L. Stine. Around the age of 14 I pretty much read only Point Horror, Sweet Valley High and The Babysitter's Club stories. So was I glad that I took a trip down memory lane? Well to be honest the answer is on the whole a yes mainly because it had a nostalgic feel to it and the twists and turns were as ever present.
Caitlin is a pretty normal teenager who loves spending time with her friends that is until she falls for Blade. At first everything is great but then things take a turn for the worse and Caitlin's life gets very crazy. There is an element of supernatural which means that the story is pretty far fetched but also entertaining as I wondered where the story would go next. I think there was ways in which the story could have been better but that is from the view of a woman who is in her thirties. I'm sure my younger self would have loved the strange and twisty way the story unfolded.
A dark story from Fear Street!
Three stars from me!
With thanks to St Martins Press and Netgalley for my copy. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.
Since I was a little girl I've been obsessed with R.L Stine and his books! From goosebumps to fear street, grew up watching the show and everything so when I saw this book up on Nergally and I received it I was so happy. To this day his books still rock and this book was soo creepy I loved it
R.L. Stine had one heck of a fear street comeback! R.L. Stine will never cease to amaze me. I have been reading his books since I was 12, and I am happy to say I still love his books.
This book was very dark, and had plenty of unexpected moments. Never was I expecting a twist this crazy at the ending of the book. But I can tell you I finished the book with a smile of amazement.
This book had all the creepy aspects one could want in a fear street novel. I can't say much more without spoiling the story, but if you choose to read this book know that you will be baffled, and amazed. Also make sure you free up some time in your schedule, because this book is going to have you on the edge of your seat. Plenty of "WHAT?" and "NO WAY!" moments that will have you really wondering just how more amazing and realistic ones imagination can be.
This book does have some extremely creepy scenes, but is not too gruesome to teenagers I would recommend this book for ages 15-16 and up.
I received this ARC book for free from the publisher via netgalley which had no influence on this review. I was under no obligation to provide a review.
