Charlotte and Brenden had been friends for their whole lives. Brenden was seven years older than Charlotte and ever since the death of both of her parents when she was twelve years old, he had been her protector. Their families had an unusual dynamic. Their fathers and grandfathers had been close friends but in both generations, there had also been a love triangle that existed. Then you add in drama, jealousy and deceit and there was a whole lot more going on. Through it all, though, Bren and Charlie remained close.
As Charlie approached her 21st birthday, she began to see Brenden as more than a friend. Could a romantic relationship be possible for them. Brendan had always had his choice of women but he never let them get too close. He loved Charlie but couldn't see how that could possibly work. But, was it possible?
I enjoyed this story very much. Charlie and Bren's relationship was special and deep. It was almost as if it was the two of them against the rest of the world, including their crazy and jealous family members. There was one sex scene that, fortunately, wasn't too uncomfortably descriptive.
I was given an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Main Guy: Brendon
Main Girl: Charlotte
How I got through this one is beyond me.
I hated the characters and found them sooooo boring and so martyr-ish that I was hoping a piano would fall on them and liven things up.
And her family; ugh, like seriously you’re loaded you don't need this, they’re aholes, just hit delete and be rid of them.
Now, as I’m a sucker for friends to lovers, I have to give props for that.
