A mysterious inherited family estate and an empath MC sounds like it has all the makings of a great plot. However, the momentum was slow going and I wanted more in the way of answers. I wanted to like this one, but aside from the setting and the interesting/creepy tone it just never expanded in the way I had hoped.

The history and folklore aspect was well done with the haunted legacy Alexis inherited. I was also hoping for a faster pace and honestly, less description. It stalled on me. I Would try Teresa Crumpton’s next book though.

For 60% of this book I was really enjoying it. I found the story interesting and engaging, and the characters were starting to develop. I loved the premise of the novel, about a young girl inheriting a dark and spooky mansion, with a magical history. It was all very mysterious. I think this had the potential to be a really great read.

The downside was that the writing style didn't fit the genre. There was one too many instance of heat induced flushes, and collapsing into the hunky man's arms. It had more of a feel of a Mills and Boon romance. It got to the point where the constantly collapsing heroine started to get on my nerves.

The worse aspect of the novel was the way that the end just cut off with no warning. I had to check my kindle as I thought I had a download error and I had chapters missing -apparently not. The story was building to some form of conflict and it never happened. I was so disappointed.

I think this has the makings of a great book (or series). I think the author needs to make her writing style more appropriate to the genre, and calm down the cheesy teenage love story, and make it a bit more grown up, and make the heroine a bit stronger, and give this book a decent ending.
