Well now I kinda want to move to Montana. The way McGinnis describes Whisper Creek makes it seem absolutely perfect...throw in some attractive cowboys and your girl is hooked. Lexi gets a job on a ranch, helping out as a nurse as a way to lick her wounds recovering from practically being left at the altar. But she's got an alterior motive and when she enlists Gunnar's help, it isn't long before the attraction starts and Lexi realizes that maybe the "happily ever after" she was expecting was all smoke and mirrors. While there's a lot we get from Lexi's past, I feel like we sped past the issues in Gunnar's life and I would have liked more. All in all, a cute read that made me want to go horseback riding.

This is book #4 in the Whisper Creek series and can be read as a stand alone. I definitely will be reading the other books in this series. I loved the story of Gunnar and Alexis and how the family at Whisper Creek are so close and do everything with love for each other. Thank You to NetGalley for an ARC of this book.

Really sweet story! Lexi and Gunnar have a great connection. I don’t like that she wants her ex back and that it takes awhile for her to realize that it’s a stupid idea. Also, I found her sending her ex selfie pics of her new adventurous self was pathetic; she sends over 10 pics to him with very little response from him. I wanted her to be stronger; more focused on herself and Gunnar, but that is one of the things she needs to work on throughout the story. I just wanted her to put more effort into her connection with Gunnar.

Gunnar is great! He’s really a perfect guy; totally understanding and sweet and sexy! I also loved that he doesn’t do casual! Yay!! A guy that shows respect to women.

Overall, I really enjoyed the story. I would’ve liked a bit more spice; there’s some making out, but I wanted a bit more. Still a wonderful, sexy connection between Gunnar and Lexi. Heartfelt read!

The hero in this book, Gunnar, is the absolute perfect book boyfriend. I fell in love with him immediately. Alexis, the heroine unlucky in love, was sweet and adorable. Full of humor throughout, making this an easy read. A surprising thing happens towards the end that shocked me to the core but made the story feasible. I can’t wait to read more from this author as her book read real. Book provided by NetGalley.

Wow! What a welcoming committee! Gunnar, who you think is the stereotypical cowboy, is so much deeper than that. Oh, sure,, he’s sexy, is the horse whisperer, and definitely a gentleman. But add to that the fact that he doesn’t want to mold women into what he wants, wants so much more than a one night fling, and most of all, realizes that people come with baggage and he’s willing to pay the extra service fee. He is Lexi’s dream. Oh, and he isn’t afraid of curses. Yes, you’ll fall in love with him, but you’ll also fall in love with Montana or maybe it’s the people at Whisper Creek or maybe it’s both. Let’s just face it. The heart kisses will be floating out with each oooh and ahhh. Oh, and spoiler alert,, the confession of love will have to be read at least times 😘!

UNLUCKY IN LOVE - Maggie McGinnis

#4 in the Whisper Creek romance series

SWEET AND LOVING - 4.5 stars

Plot - 4 stars - When Lexi's fiance backs out two weeks before their wedding, she takes a nurse job at Whisper Creek Ranch to completely get away from her life in York, Maine. Instead of being willing to start fresh, she's really trying to remake herself so she can attract her fiance back to her, sending him pictures and texts. Although she's attracted to Gunnar, she enlists his help in recapturing Tristan's interest.

Writing - 4 stars - McGinnis is fast becoming one of my favorite romance authors. She has created a really wonderful setting in Whisper Creek, full of wonderfully generous and thoughtful characters, and with a sense of peace that really shines through.

Characters - 5 stars - This is where the story really shone for me. Lexi is trying to remake herself after being dumped so many times that she's decided she's cursed. I thought she'd be annoyingly lacking in confidence, but instead she's got a deep core of strength that she just hasn't recognized. I also share many of her quiet, introverted characteristics, so perhaps that's why I identified with her so completely. Gunnar is the perfect romantic hero. He's handsome, caring, thoughtful, but not a player. I enjoyed getting to know them both better. There was plenty of back story to explain their thoughts and their motivations.

Title - 4 stars - Because of the "curse" following Lexi and her relationships, she has definitely been very unlucky in love, so the title makes sense.

Cover - 4 stars - Two attractive people in an embrace--one a hot cowboy and one a lovely woman. Definitely eye-catching and very nice.

Overview - 4.5 stars - This whole book was sweet and loving. I especially loved the ending, which was a total surprise (for both Lexi and me), and it really left me with a warm feeling. Typical contemporary romance novels nowadays require lots of hot and steamy sexual scenes--this book had none of them. And I would have thought I would have missed them. But in this case, the relationship was just right, fitting both of their personalities perfectly. The story kept my interest, the setting was wonderful, and I can never resist a close-knit family unit. There aren't any laugh-out-loud jokes, but there's just enough humor to make me smile many times throughout the book. Well done. Additionally, since I'm from the East Coast, I especially liked picturing Lexi on Long Sands Beach in York--a favorite spot of mine as well. And imagining a horse ride on the beach at sunset--super romantic.

I’m a sucker for book series and I’m a sucker for books about cowboys and books set in Montana because I love that area so much, so Maggie McGinnis’ Whisper Creek series was kind of made for me and I was really excited when she announced there would be three more books in this series. Unlucky in Love is the first book in the next three books and I enjoyed a lot, but for me it lacked a bit of the charm the first three books had.

Alexis Maquire is convinced she is cursed; many times over in her life boys and then men have treated her as disposable until someone better comes along including her fiancé who broke up with her via a letter he left in her mailbox. With the summer off from her school nursing job, Alexis (Lexi) takes a job at a Montana guest ranch hoping for some fun and adventure to make her more attractive to the man who left her hanging two weeks before her wedding. What she doesn’t count on is ranch hand Gunner Steele making her see that she doesn’t need to change to please a man.

I find it amusing and cute that women come to this ranch and find their soul mates or simply don’t want to leave. Alexis on the other hand wanted adventure and to become a more interesting and less inhibited person hoping to win her ex back and while Gunner agrees to help her; he also begins to see that she is pretty perfect just the way she is. I loved that about Gunner and that he eventually helped Alexis to see that she just needed to be herself and find the RIGHT man for her. It wasn’t easy because Alexis has some big time commitments back in Maine and Gunner is set on staying in Montana. Thankfully Gunner knows exactly what he needs to do to prove he’s worth the risk.

This is a sweet romance and while I appreciated their friendship and their getting to know you stage with this couple I didn’t feel the intensity between them that I have in the other books in this series. There was more of a comfortable feel between these two, a rightness for sure, but the heat seemed to be missing. However, Unlucky in Love was sweet, charming, emotional, and with beautiful Montana as a backdrop, it was an engaging romance.

So much love for this story! I loved the storyline and plot, the characters and the writing style. Can't wait to read more books by this fantastic author. Really related to the main character and rooted for her from the very start.

Alexis needs something new. The man whom she thought was her life partner ditched her right before their wedding. Encouraged by her younger, care-free sister, she creates a new her. She’ll be all the things her ex-fiance wanted her to be. More fun, more adventurous, read for anything. That’ll show him, and he’ll come running back to her open arms.

Unfortunately – or maybe not – fate partnered up with a too-hot-for-words cowboy and came up with a different plan. Gunnar doesn’t deny his attraction to Lexi (the new Alexis), but he will not get hooked on a woman who’s so hooked on the Idiot (his nickname for her ex) that she’s willing to change everything about herself (everything Gunnar himself is attracted to) to win him back. She should love who she is, and expect the same from any man lucky enough to get with her.

When she seeks out Gunnar’s help to indulge in some of her adventures, she finds herself thinking less and less about the Idiot and more and more about Gunnar. Gunnar starts to see her focus shifting, but he remains reluctant to get too deeply involved, although his heart has a mighty big tug on his actions. The change in the relationship is subtle enough that it’s believable without being too slow. The supporting characters are just that – supportive- not to mention extremely charming and lovable, just like the Lexi and Gunnar. I enjoyed their outings and watching Lexi discover that she’s fine just the way she is. McGinnis did a wonderful job wrapping up the story. I wasn’t the least bit disappointed that the resolution to their problem was not what I expected. It was definitely a happy ending after the unexpected turn.

Lexi and Gunner were fun and oh so sweet as a love story. A man who needed to find and trust his heart meeting a girl who needed changes and to find her own mojo. Loved it from start to end.

Found this book a bit it hard to get into the story, which was ok and had alright characters but will try again in the future with this author. Thanks for letting me try your book.

A clean, sweet romance that reads much like a light-hearted Hallmark romance movie.

McGinnis uses many of the genre stereotypes: left at the altar, new girl in town trying to make a fresh/wild start, a dude trying to settle down; nothing new here, but that's pretty much the charm of the story. A tad sickly-sweet for my taste, but perfect if you're in the mood for a clean, uncomplicated, predictable, cotton-candy kind of read.

3 stars.

This is a good story about two people lost who come together at whisper creek. Alexis Maguire’s wedding comes and goes without the groom showing up. Tired and not waiting around she travels west to Montana and whisper creek. Not looking for romance she is looking for a recharge of her inner self, and she finds that and more. Gunner Peterson has been working at the ranch for six months and after a childhood of moving around always he has seem to have found a home. When these two meet neither are looking for romance but say in whisper creek don’t drink too much of the water for love will find you. This is what happens between these two but they put up a good fight. A good story with good characters. Worth the read.

This was a fun, cute romance. I will definitely be returning to read more by this author. I always like a good cowboy romance, and this book fit the bill.

This was a GREAT book. First of all steamy without being trashy. No bad language no nasty sex. I really enjoyed the sense of family that this book brought out, a sense of closeness, friendship and love. As I was reading about the landscape, horses and big open sky I could picture it all in my mind. I wanted to visit that ranch. It sounded like so much fun. I think that all of us can relate on some point with Lexie, on trying to change yourself into something better or what we think other people want on some level. I also think that at some point we can realize that on some point like Lexie that our original selves is the best self we can be. Sometimes it just takes someone special to point that out. This book was fun easy reading, that was very enjoyable.
