I love books that dive into Norse mythology as it's one of my favorite groupings of myths and folklore, and I don't see it as often which is why this series stands out. That said, I think Arctic Dawn had some issues that make me hesitate to read further.
The mythology is the first and biggest one, surprisingly enough. It was so heavy-handed in this book that I felt the "world-building" ended up bogging the story down rather than enhancing it. Everything was explained in far too much detail and I was constantly pulled out of the story.
In terms of the characters, I would say their development across the board was strong but I didn't connect to any one of them enough for it to really matter.
And the story... not only was the world-building heavy handed but there was just SO much going on that I struggled to keep track at times (and therefore lost interest in trying to keep track). Plus I never felt like the struggles the cast goes through were really that bad? I never felt like they were in enough danger to warrant an emotional connection from me.
By the end of Arctic Dawn, I was just sort of tired and I'm not quite sure I will continue the series.
