From a well-overseen series of pop-culture critiques, this is a nice collection of essays, many by the original writers of Star Trek. They discuss the difference made by having independent science-fiction authors rather than a writers' room, the role of women in the production company, why Spock was a compelling character, getting controversial things past the network, and the miracles of syndication for building a devoted fan base.
